Default Sauce trade

As I reflect on this trade, it is by far the worst trade in the history of the Colts franchise. Giving up 2 #1 draft choices and a promising WR that you drafted in the 2nd round just 2 years earlier? Turns out that Sauce is leaking oil and isn't even a top 15 CB. But, even if he was all that, it's still too much to give up. I can't name a single defensive player that I would have given that much for. Can anyone?

There have been several players traded for multiple 1st Round Draft Picks recently.

It really boils down to where you think the First Round Picks will end up in the draft. If both of the draft picks end up in the later half of the First Round, it isn't as big of a deal. But if one of the draft picks goes higher, it makes the trade look horrible.

Personally, I would have preferred to place some conditions on the draft picks. For example, I would have added a condition that if either of the draft picks went in the top 16...then the Jets would need to send back a Day 2 Draft Pick of that same draft in return to help balance out the draft capital.

Here is the list of players from the more recent trades:

Maxx Crosby - trade was agreed to and announced, but later cancelled due to Crosby failing his physical
Sauce Gardner
Micah Parsons
Deshaun Watson - trade involved 3 First Round Draft Picks
Russell Wilson
Matthew Stafford
Jamal Adams
Jalen Ramsey
Laremy Tunsil
Khalil Mack

Then there is a gap of about 10 years between the Mack trade and the previous one.

I would absolutely have done it for Parsons if he was healthy, but he was quite possibly the best edge rusher in football at 26 years old at the time of the trade, meaning you would be likely to get well over 5 years of quality production from him. That's the kind of value that's worth a package like that.

People over value draft picks. If you can get a great player for a couple draft picks I’d do it. Odds are with those picks you will draft a decent starter and a bust.

Aside from one bad game in London, Sauce has been targeted 13 times and allowed 6 receptions for 91 yards. In the past 2 games, he’s given up 1 reception.

I was going to research that trade, but work got in the way. Good call!

I said it when it happened and I still agree, one of the worst trades in the history of the league.....just another embarrassing highlight in Ballard's legacy!

There are so many damn layers to this.

I did some research, and eschewing a specific focus on Sauce, the bottom line is Anarumo is a dipshit.

Our pass rush is absolute dog shit right, dog shit! So, with us not being able to get to the QB- at all, what do you think you would do? Me, I think I would probably get really sticky on the backend, hope these tight cover bad asses (on paper at least they are "supposed" to be) could stay on their guys long enough that my D line guys can get home.

Well ol' Lou, the NFL defensive savant, the man that architected one of, or perhaps a few of, the NFL's all time worst D's, despite having a borderline HOF DE's, well that MF'er that is Lou, you see he is a genius.

Baltimore to open the season= 60% man rate. Yeah man, ok, ok, that's your style, you're going to stick to your guns, turn your back to the most vacate the pocket lightning quick to get into the void with his legs QB of all time- ok, sure man, that's your mode of operation, gotta stick with it even if it hurts you, growing pains, 1st game, so be it--- I am cool with it. Build your identity, let the guys know this is how we are going to play on the back end all year so learn it and get used to it!

Hey, game 6, we're playing what is widely being panned as one of the worst QB's in the NFL. Starting to be talked about as a huge bust. So, you would think the objective would then be to get after him, keep up that high man rate and really get aggressive with the attacking front. Nope, not quite! Smarty pants Lou fooled them Mofos- he went man 17.4% against Ward. Yep, less than 20%, or less than 1/3 of his man rate against one of the league's man killers, he went man against one of the league's premier suckers. The result- NO SACKS, we had 1---- ONE MOTHERFUCKING HIT--- on maybe the league's worst QB, and what did we get- a fucking interception!

One fucking hit and he got sacked 4 times the game before! Cool man, let's go soft zone and let them develop routes against us. We blitzed him 6 times in the game. Granted he only threw 22 passes, but come the fuck on man.

Oh, and can't blame the injury to Sauce as the reason these numbers exist- Sauce went down mid 3rd Qtr. Nope, this just Lou being Lou.

Man, he has to be one of the all time worst hires in NFL history! You won't convince me that we are playing slow uninspired defense because nobody wants to play for this dude.

FUCK WE SUCK!

You probably have a point in that Anarumo doesn’t demonstrate a great deal of creativity or flexibility. But, your complaint about their performance against Ward would have been a lot more solid had they not held him to 100’odd yards through the air.
