I have never been this excited about defensive possibilities with a Colt team
CBs Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden
FS Antonio Bethea
SS Bob Sanders

With Freeney and Mathis at DE

Gary Bracket at MLB

Those were some years that I was excied about the defensive possibilities of a Colts defense.

However, since then? Yeah, our secondary should be fun to watch.

I think the Bubba Smith, Ted Hendricks, Mike Curtis and Rick Volk group was the best I ever rooted for. Not old enough to have seen Gino Marchetti and that group

Sanders didn't play enough but when he did he really elevated everything to the point you may be correct

I stand by being more excited about this group because having two shut down corners in this pass happy league is such a unicorn

Whenever l hear or read about Rick Volk, it always reminds me of reading about him in regard to Super Bowl III, in which he was knocked unconscious twice. It was in an auto-biography of Joe Namath.

One of those times was when the Colts recovered a successful onside kick late in the 4th quarter. I couldn't believe it when I saw 4 of his teammtes literally carrying him off the field, each one with a limb ...... today if a player is knocked unconscious, you have a stoppage in play for about 5 minutes, a whole slew of people out there on the field with him (doctors, trainers, head coach, assistant coaches, etc) ...... back then, players were more concerned about getting their unconscious teammate off of the field as soon as possible, as though their biggest concern was avoiding getting a delay-of-game penalty.

Fast-forward to the 1:55:12 mark to see Volk literally getting dragged off of the field by 4 of his teammates.

Mitchell had 8 catches for 102 yards and a touchdown yesterday.

Because of course he’d go to the Jets and immediately become a star.

You usually have to wait a few years to see which team did the best in a trade, but the early reports favor the Jets.

He had that talent here, he just didn't have opportunity. He was fourth on the depth chart and in the coaching staff's doghouse.

There’s also the matter of him screwing up almost every opportunity he DID get here.

To me the problem is the offense not the defense. I think DJ hurt his leg in the Chiefs game and the offense has sputtered ever since.

The offense has been struggling for the last month and it's because Jones is not beating the blitz like he did early. They need to run more quick passing game to get teams to back off blitzing, and Jones has to deliver the ball to his hots on time and accurately. If that happens, this offense will be just as effective as it was early in the year.
