I can see other teams possibly wanting Leonard on their practice squads. But they would have to elevate him to their 53 man roster and keep him there for at least 3 weeks i believe. I am not sure many teams see him as that sort of development project, otherwise they would have drafted him to begin with. Of course i could be wrong, but i am more willing to bet that Leonard gets to our practice squad than either Mallory, Woods or Land. I also think that all three of those guys are ultimately actually more likely to give some production this year and going forward than Leonard is.

I agree w/ a lot of what you guys are saying. I do think chances are slim to none that we release Leonard. We kept Ehlinger around for 4 years, and Leonard has shown more potential that Ehlinger did.
I also agree that Mallory and Woods will definitely not survive the waiver wire, and Land might not as well. In order to keep both Mallory and Woods we'll have to either make some tough cuts or get creative. Same goes w/ Land. Here's a couple of ideas I have: Release Tenuta then either sign him to the PS if he clears waivers or just outright re-sign him and place someone like Carlies, Ebukam, or Goodson on IR and designate them to return after they're healthy (Goodson will be tough to do unless we keep Herbert or Bentley). We'll need to open a roster spot when said IR player gets healthy, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. Release Johnson II knowing that either him or Smith is likely to make it to our PS. Could also re-sign Johnson after putting someone on IR as stated above. Ade Ade could be a candidate for this as well. Also, I think Edwards makes the team as our 6th CB over Womack. Edit: Just now read that there was a rules change in 2024 that allows teams to place up to 2 players on IR designated to return on cutdown day. I totally missed seeing that. Anyway, it makes things easier to keep both Mallory and Woods, Land, etc. by placing someone like Carlies on IR tomorrow. Last edited by IndyNorm; 08-25-2025 at 08:09 PM. |

I am guessing the 6th CB role now goes to Mekhi Blackmon. The Colts just picked him up from the Vikings for a 6th Round draft pick. He missed last season due to an ACL injury. |

Yeah, just saw that. Guessing both Edwards and Womack are gone now. Maybe Edwards clears waivers and makes it to the PS.

That's OK ...... Ballard might do the same thing when he finalizes the roster. o

Not too surprising I guess considering Woods was #5 on the depth chart. Was thinking that w/ Carlies going to the IR that might open up a temporary spot to keep Woods, but I guess not.
Here's to hoping he clears waivers and we sign him to the PS, but I really doubt that'll happen. |

Woods played throughout the 4th quarter in all the preseason games.
That’s the least surprising cut they’ll make. And to be honest, he’s kind of redundant with Warren around. |
