Default I Ran My First Elite Tower Race (Penn Plaza in NYC)

o

I ran my first-ever elite tower race yesterday, and I did not do as well as I thought I would. My training included running over 5,000 floors per week on the Stairmaster at Planet Fitness, much of it at top speed (25.) I thought that I would be in the neighborhood of the nationally-ranked runners, and I wasn't. It took me 9:37 to complete the 55-floor race to the top of Penn Plaza in New York City. The winning time was 6:58, more than 2 full minutes faster than my time. I was the 15th Male finisher, and the 19th finisher overall. I finished 3rd overall in my age group (I'm 59 years-old.) It was a very disappointing time for me after all of my training and expectations. But at least I got the experience under my belt, and I know that I have a lot of wood to chop to catch up to the big guns in the sport of tower racing. I don't know if I will catch up to them, but I will be trying my darndest to do so. Thank you to all of my fellow Colts fans for listening to me ramble, and allowing me to cry on your shoulders.

Sincerely,

Patrick Colon (Colts and Orioles)

Even though I wasn't happy with my finishing time of 9:37, I did get 3rd overall for my age group (50 to 59) ...... this is a photo of the awards ceremony, after the race.

I ran my 2nd rower race on Saturday. It was only 25 floors. I was 5th Male finisher, and 6th overall.

I did set a record for the most floors climbed after the completion of the race ....... after the race, they allow runners to continue running the stairs, and they keep track of it. The record was 250 floors. I did 500 floors (the race, plus 19 additional climbs of the building.) They gave us until 12 Noon to do that. I did my 500th floor by about 11:10 AM. I could have done more, but I was satisfied with the record.

That's awesome. Age is just a number people use as an excuse not to do something. Last year after I got the green light from cancer, the loss of my oldest daughter, I decided to take my life back. I am 60 years old. I run/walk about 5 miles a day. I work out every single day of the week sans weekends. I am within 15 pounds of my playing weight in school. Six months ago I went to local training gym and started sparing with some of the youngers guys training for MMA. (I am a blackbelt in Krav-Maga and boxed as a young man) They don't hurt me to bad. Lol. I feel better than I have felt in years. I used my age to avoid getting back in shape. Now I embrace it.

Thank You, Patrick!

A disease I never heard of until she was diagnosed with it. Definitely a shock to the system. It was a year this month it is still so surreal. I was numb for a long time, and very angry. People avoided me I was so angry. I'm good now.
