Ballard's a great talent evaluator, but he at times gets too sentimental w/ some players and his player succession plans leave a lot to be desired.
we have the same holes year after year waiting for development to happen. Ballard can learn to hedge his bets at times

Yeah, no doubt. Although I have to admit that he at least did bring in some pass rush and CB in the offseason rather than just once again rely on some of his draft picks to make a leap. Would have been nice if he had brought in a vet WR too.......

20-29: 9-9
30-39: 9-9
40-49: 10-21
50-59: 8-8

Total: 37-49 ( 75.5% )

Yep, the Colts went with the vet for kicking duties this weekend - Chase McLaughlin was elevated from the practice squad and gets the first crack at the job:

(vs. VIKINGS, 12/17)

(1) ) McLaughlin was 5-for-5 in field-goal attempts yesterday, including a 52-yarder and a 49-yarder.

(2) ) McLaughlin was waiting for a chance to boot a 6th and game-clinching kick from 53 yards out when Jeff Saturday opted to go for it on 4th-and-1.

(3) ) For the season overall, McLaughlin is 8-for-11 from 50+ yards, and is 8-for-9 from 40-49 yards.

(4) ) McLaughlin broke ) Adam Vinatieri's ) franchise record for successful 50-plus-yarders in a season ...... in 2016, Vinatieri was 7-for-9 from 50+ yards.

Saturday knew his job was to finish the tank. No way he kicks it and wins. Not what he was hired to do.

Saturday was hired to win, regardless of what his decision was there.

You could argue that going for it was the right call, but I don't think that Saturday's hands were tied one way or the other. If he had let McLaughlin kick it and he had made it, very few people would have complained about that decision.

I have mixed feelings about the decision, as I could see an argument for either one ...... I was recapping McLaughlin's day, rather than arguing that Saturday made the wrong decision. I think that either decision would have been right because a team needs to be able to get one yard on 4th down, and McLaughlin is having a fantastic, accurate season overall. The only decision that I would have vehemently disagreed with would be if he had chosen to punt the ball.

The way McLaughlin was kicking in that stadium on that particular day, how does Saturday not let him kick it?

If we win McLaughlin is AFC ST player of the week and Saturday has a chance to keep his job. I know what Dungy would have done.

I guess in the long run it works out for us as we are currently drafting #6 and with only one team in front of us, for sure taking a QB.
