In draft day trades, if you are at the top of the 2nd round and really like a guy, the asking price is usually the following years No.1 pick, i would argue that if you are in the middle to late 2nd round and really wanted a guy and didn't have a pick in the 1st round of the following years draft you would need to give up a 1st rounder from 2 years ahead.

So another way to look at this in the immediate case the Rams gave up Goff, and a top 2nd rounder and mid 2nd round selection and a 3rd rounder this year.

The Lions are only going to receive a 3rd round pick plus Goff and an awful lot of dead cap space THIS YEAR. They are rewarded in subsequent years though.

I suspect the actual cost to get Stafford alone was not much more than the 2 later year first rounders, which would easily equate to a 1st and 2nd rounder this year, which many people were speculating was exactly what the price would be.

Personally i like 1st round selections in later seasons, but in a win it all now case scenario that the Rams are in, it isn't quite as bad as maybe first thought.
