For sure, this team is not a top contender by any means, but we have a chance kind of like the Harbaugh Colts of the mid-90s.

There is life in the organization that I would say we have not seen since Luck's great season in what, 2018? There was a bit of energy during the Rivers year, but this is starting to feel a little different and a little more collective. That celebration with Schrader at the end to Butter's point, had some 1995 era to it.
Not convinced we are a playoff caliber team yet, but also not ready to say that we aren't, and that's a LOT more than I expected 2 games into this season. |

No doubt. Steichen was calling plays like we were at their 20 instead of their ~40. Hopefully he realizes how super lucky we were and learned his lesson, but since we won I doubt it.

did anyone see the irsay gals face when the last play call came in? even she knew it was dumb as fuck to run the ball and hope for a 60 yard field goal.
coach really fucked up at the end of this game. |

It is weird how a coach who went for it on 4th at midfield was so conservative at the end.

I was thinking that too. Remember when Hasselback did that and won us the game?

On the final play from scrimmage, Jonathan Taylor lost 2 yards. If Steichen was going to take the ultra-conservative at that point, then he should have run a QB sneak on 3rd down ...... a QB sneak will at least gain a yard or 2, AND it will prevent you from losing yardage ...... so instead of a 60-yard FG attempt for Schrader, it would have been a 55-yard or a 56-yard attempt. And yes, I do think that it helps a kicker a lot if he is trying to make a 55 or 56-yarder instead of trying to make a 60-yarder ...... just like I think that it helps a kicker if he is trying to make a 52 or 53-yarder instead of a 57-yarder. Steichen did neither risk-take nor conservative with that final play-call from scrimmage ...... he did the worst thing possible, which is to hand off to the running back who was lined up a good 5 or 6 yards behind the line of scrimmage, which gave the defense a chance to penetrate and throw the ball-carrier for a loss. That is what I was thinking as it was happening. It was clear from the previous 2 calls from scrimmage that Steichen was going ultra-conservative, but in my rat's ass of an opinion, he even screwed that up ...... thankfully it became a moot point because of the 15-yard personal foul penalty, but I really think that there would have been a decent chance that Schrader would have been a little more confident and might have made a 56 or 57-yard attempt if it had come down to that. o

I know it was a conservative play call, but often I've seen a play like that pop through a seam and gain 20+ yards. It's the old saying, "Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan"
Bottom line, The Colts are 2 and 0.
