Default DJ Against the Chiefs

The quote from a NFL.com article:
Quote:
Daniel Jones had his worst day as a Colts passer, going 19-of-31 for 181 yards (season low), two passing touchdowns and a 99.0 passer rating.
Say what you want about DJ, but the fact that his WORST day of the season was a 99.0 rating is pretty crazy.

I am still on the fence about him. I do not think he is a QB that can will your team to a victory when all the other chips are down. I think he is a solid game manager that can direct and offense that he is not the center of.

But, then, I said the same thing about Tom Brady the first seven or eight years of his career. Product of the system; not a "real" NFL QB. What the heck do I know?

Anyway, I still think the majority of this loss was on coaching, not the players on the field. 1 rush, 8 passes in the 4th quarter when we had the lead and needed to bleed the clock.

We will not succeed in the rest of the season if SS cannot learn from his mistakes.

I am kind of with you on this Sherk. If he was a rookie or a newish starter I would be pretty much leaning towards this is a coaching deal also. Don't get me wrong, the play calling seemed lousy, but my biggest concern is these last 3 games are exactly what everyone who was down on him form his first 6 years in the league said was his issue. All we heard initially was how lousy his coaches were in NY, apparently they called the wrong plays also. I am pretty down on him right now. I don't know how you pay someone what he is going to want who is incapable of leading you when the going gets tough against good opponents. People will bring up this or that play but was there even one of us that thought when we got the ball-this game is over, he will find a way to drive for at least a first down? Like you have felt with literally dozens of top tier QBs over the years? I am not saying he is incapable of doing this but I need to see him do it for us more than once before I have any confidence at all in this dude. Seems like a hard worker and a nice guy so I am rooting for him big time but if I am honest think it will be in vain.

You would think Shane would have plenty of time to figure out better plays while the defense is on the field, but he is also the HC, so he can't just focus on the offense. Maybe he needs Cooter in his ear more when we get the ball back. Someone is getting paid well enough to scheme better plays to slow down the pass rushers.

Jones also had ZERO turnovers in this game, which was the biggest fear of many Colts fans entering the game ...... in my rat's ass of an opinion, Jones is the real deal.

The key to unlocking Daniel Jones’s potential is to give him a clean pocket. In that, he’s not alone. In the long history of the NFL, you can’t find more than a handful of Quarterbacks who thrived when the blitz go home. No less a luminary than Tom Brady wilted under the pressure of a relentless Giant’s rush.

It seems to me that the need is not for a better Quarterback; the need is for a better scheme.

Part of the problem was that the Chiefs waited until late in the game before they loosed the hounds. The Colt’s offense didn’t have much time to find an answer.

There must be some serious doubt within the organization about Jonathan Taylor’s ability as a blocker. As far as I could see, they made absolutely no attempt to use him to pick up a blitzing DB.

The first thing that I think of when pondering the rare examples is Dan Marino, and his super-quick release. In 1985, Marino and his Dolphins soundly defeated the Chicago Bears by a score of 38-24, ending their undefeated season. Only a huge upset in the AFC Championship game by the New England Patriots averted a rematch of those teams' in that season's Super Bowl.

Other ways of having success when the team's offensive line is bad and/or the opponent has a ferocious pass rush is if you have a maniac like Frank Tarkenton, Michael Vick, or Randall Cunningham, scrambling around until they can either find a receiver downfield, or gain significant yardage by running the ball themselves.

I get that and honestly that was my only real concern prior to the game. I am now concerned that Jones is not capable of making teams pay when they go all out and stop the run game, at least not good defensive teams like you meet in January. You cannot be one dimensional like that and expect to make a run in the playoffs. Both of us have opinions and honestly I hope I get to eat crow because Jones proves you a much more astute judge than me. I sure as hell am not confident enough to put any real money on it. But I don't believe in the guy and won't until he actually does it.

Jones had a 63.9 qb rating against the Steelers.

Recency bias ...... the Colts' most recent loss was 2 days ago after a bad 4th quarter and overtime by the offense, so perhaps some Colts fans presume that it was Jones' worst game of the season.

He clearly had a worse game against the Steelers.

No it isn't recency bias. It is cumulative effect for me. I would like to know what being the real deal means in your mind. How good do you believe Jones is?
