Based on talent alone, sure. But Pickens brings so much added drama. And, at the time of the draft, he was coming off an ACL injury...although he did return for a few games at the tail end of his last college football season. |

In the Top-25, Daniel Jones is at #3, and Alec Pierce is at #7. 2026 NFL Free Agency ...... Early Top-25 Ranking and Predictions (By Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler) https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...-jones-pickens ********************************** 3) l Daniel Jones, QB Current team: Indianapolis Colts 2025 salary: $14 Million Age entering 2026 season: 29 What he brings: Jones has elevated his level of play and poise under coach Shane Steichen in Indianapolis. Through 10 games, Jones' 66.8 QBR ranks 9th in the NFL, and he is throwing with a much stronger sense of timing. He fits in an offense that features a good run game, which allows him to operate as a facilitator. (Matt Bowen) What we're hearing: Jones has a chance to become the biggest earner in the free-agency class. The Colts appear to be all-in on keeping Jones long-term, and they have comps for former top-10 picks who thrived when quarterbacking a new team ...... Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, who each earned 3-year deals worth around $100 Million. Jones would totally be justified asking for that ...... with interest. (Jeremy Fowler) 7) l Alec Pierce, WR Current team: Indianapolis Colts 2025 salary: $3.7 Million Age entering 2026 season: 26 What he brings: A vertical stretch target at 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds, Pierce is averaging an NFL-best 20.9 yards per catch. He has the straight-line speed to lift the safeties to create open coverage voids underneath. With more volume and an increased role, Pierce could produce somewhere as a multi=level route runner in 2026. (Matt Bowen) What we're hearing: Teams I've talked to anticipate that Pierce will hit a big number in free-agency. They think that the $20 Million per year threshold isn't out of the question for him. Pierce is poised for his first 1,000-yard season and has the size/speed combination teams covet. The Colts have decisions to make on offense. If they pay Daniel Jones ...... who has chemistry with Pierce ...... do they let Pierce walk ??? Much of that will depend on how Pierce's market develops. The Colts typically don't do extensions during the season. (Jeremy Fowler) o

Pay Pierce long term. Not 100% convinced yet that we should be ln long term with Jones (not that I matter but I am about 80% convinced-way up from maybe 5% at the beginning of the year)

His last two games have been his worst two for the Colts. Lots of reasons but I think the blueprint against him is that he has been moved of his mark A LOT in the last two games. Early in the season when that happened, he seemed good throwing on the run. In the last two games, not so much. If the Colts are smart at all, they worked in a hot read into every passing concept that did not have one during the bye. If the blitz is coming, Jones needs to make they pay with the quick hit to Warren, Downs or Taylor. He also needs to learn to climb the pocket better rather than bail out back or to the side. How he responds will be, IMO, the read needed to see if he should be paid long term.

I'm not convinced by his instincts to know when he is in deep trouble and needs to hit his hot read, or ffs protect the ball.

If I were his QB coach, I would be drilling him on climbing the pocket constantly.
