I was in 9th grade in high school when Joe Barry Carroll led Purdue to the Final Four, in March of 1980.

I remember them beating St. John's in the 2nd Round, which was played on Purdue's home court. Purdue was only a #6-seed, but they were fortunate enough to get to play their first 2 games of the tournament at home ...... but they followed that up with 2 upsets of Indiana and Duke to advance to the Final Four, before falling to Kiki VanDeWegh's UCLA team.


I believe that J.B. Carroll had a solid NBA career, and was underrated because of his being the #1 overall draft pick.
