The Chargers coach is not too bright....3rd and 3 and you go for the end zone, why not get the first down and keep the clock running?

30-28 Now.

Chargers are imploding, reminds me of the Colts vs. Vikes.

And they did. I think the Chargers coach may be done now. Unbelievable.

I figured it was over and went to the store at halftime. With good coaching/development, Trevor Lawrence is going to be a pain in the ass for years to come.

With only 36 seconds to play and no timeouts, the Jaguars were at the Ravens' 39-yardline. Lawrence completed a long pass to his Zay Jones in-bounds, at the Ravens' 10-yardline ...... with the clock running down, I was sure that they would spike the ball. Instead, Lawrence hurried his team to the line and threw a TD pass to Marvin Jones, Junior. Head coach Doug Pederson ...... the same daring Doug Pederson who made the trick-call for a TD pass from the wide receiver to the quarterback just before halftime in the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl win over the Patriots in 2017 ...... decided to gamble by going for the 2-point conversion, which ultimately was the difference in the final score.

(3 YEARS LATER)

What an Opportunity Squandered for the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence

(By Ryan O'Halloran)

https://www.jacksonville.com/story/s...l/88064192007/

When is throwing two go-ahead touchdowns in the fourth quarter of a playoff game not enough ???

That was the question Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had to process after the 27-24 AFC wild-card round playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Our answers: When facing reigning NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen. … When throwing a poor first-quarter interception that led to three points. … When failing to gain 2 yards on a 4th-down keeper. … And when your final throw is into too tight of a window and is intercepted after a deflection.

On a 6-game heater (14 TD's and 1 INT) entering the playoffs, Lawrence wasn’t terrible against the Bills, but there will be too many plays that he’ll want back ...... total them all up, and the Jaguars were sent packing with a 13-5 record.

Allen had more answers against the Jaguars’ defense (273 yards passing, 33 yards rushing, and 3 total touchdowns) than Lawrence against the Bills’ defense (207 yards passing, 31 yards rushing, and 3 total touchdowns.)

Allen didn’t turn it over. Lawrence did twice, three times if you include (like I do) his unsuccessful fourth-down run.

“A tough way to end this year,” Lawrence said after falling to 1-2 in the playoffs. “It’s hard to describe and put the right words to it just because there’s so much work that’s put into any season.”

There are no real right words when the end is sudden and disappointing.
But for now, what a missed opportunity for the Jaguars in general and Lawrence in particular.

This wasn’t a great Bills team. Not compared to the last few years. There’s a reason why they didn’t win the AFC East and will have to likely win three road games to reach Allen’s first Super Bowl. The conference was there for the Jaguars to take had they outlasted the Bills.

The Jaguars took a 24-20 lead with 4:03 remaining on Lawrence’s final touchdown pass of the season and couldn’t hang on.

“Everybody feels like we should have had that one,” right tackle Anton Harrison said. “It stings and it hurts.”

Passing Game Bottled Up

Lawrence finished 18-of-30 passing and his yardage total was his lowest since 158 in the loss at Houston two months ago.

A Jaguars passing game that was humming at peak efficiency and explosiveness was bottled up by the Bills’ top-ranked pass defense.

In addition to the two interceptions, Buffalo was credited with seven other pass break-ups. Even without starting cornerback Maxwell Hairston and middle linebacker Terrel Bernard, they were sticky in coverage.

Take away the 34-yard completion/heave at the end of the first half to receiver Parker Washington and the 31-yard pass to Washington in the 4th quarter, Lawrence’s longest completion was 18 yards.

Receiver Jakobi Meyers had 1 catch for 12 yards.

Tight end Brenton Strange had 2 catches for 9 yards.

Receiver Brian Thomas, Jr. had 2 catches for 21 yards (one touchdown.)

Washington kept the Jaguars’ passing game afloat with 107 yards on seven catches.

The Bills play great pass defense without having a great pass rush (one sack.) They tackled the catch. They broke up passes. They clogged up the middle of the field. Cornerback Tre’Davious White found the fountain of middle NFL age. Linebacker Shaq Thompson had the first interception. Both were starting because of injuries.

“That’s kind of their (modus operandi) of their defense,” Lawrence said. “They want to play a shell, top-down defense and not give up big plays. We weren’t good enough taking some underneath throws early to keep us in manageable (situations) and got behind the chains a couple of times.”

On their second possession, the Jaguars seemed to find their footing when a 10-yard catch and 12-yard run by running back Travis Etienne. But on second down from the 40, Lawrence was picked off by Thompson.

“I was just a little late on the throw to Parker so (Thompson) read my eyes back and made a play on it,” Lawrence said. “I felt like I saw the (Cover 2) coverage and knew where I was going with the ball.”

The Bills turned that into a 50-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead. Lawrence was 9-of-15 passing for 88 yards in the 1st half.

What next for Lawrence ???

The 2nd half didn’t start any better. He threw wide to Strange, and was almost intercepted by White. He got only 1 yard on a keeper. He was late throwing to Strange on a post route, giving White time to converge for the break-up.

But then things started clicking ......completions of 18 and 14 yards respectively set up one of Lawrence’s best throws of the season, a 6-yard dart to Washington for a 17-13 lead with 12:55 remaining.

After the Bills answered (20-17 lead), Lawrence went back to work with completions of 14 and 31 yards, leading to a 14-yard swing pass touchdown to Etienne (24-20 lead.)

“It’s a playoff game and it’s going to be back and forth,” Lawrence said. “You look at what we did in the second half and we had some answers.”
Allen had more, including his winning 1-yard touchdown run with 1:04 remaining.

Now what for Lawrence ???

Lawrence used the final 6 games of the regular season to erase many doubts about whether he can lead the Jaguars into the future, which includes a limited-capacity stadium in 2026 and relocating to Orlando for the 2027 season. When the Jaguars unveil their refurbished digs in 2028, we can expect to see Lawrence at quarterback.

If Lawrence can play remotely close to how he did over the final 6 regular-season games and parts of this game, the Jaguars are in good hands ...... but that won’t erase the feelings of an opportunity squandered against the Bills.

“It’s hard to get here, and it’s hard to win as many games as we did and win the division and have this opportunity,” Lawrence said. “The way that we finished the year, the confidence we were playing with, you think you’re going to keep rolling and plan on playing next week ...... that part is disappointing.”
