So you'd rather have the Colts cut Wentz and have his $15M in guaranteed salary hit the cap than trade him and move that $15M to another team? That's pretty fucking stupid Jaff.

You do realize that it's better for the Colts to not have dead money against the cap on a player they've dump right? JFC you're stupid.

You want a qb that can win? Well you either suck and get a high pick or you spend a shit ton of $$$$ and draft picks to buy him. Sucking for a year kicks the can down the road and it doesnt guarantee you shit. The Colts need a QB now, so its either trading talent + cash + draft picks to get an established guy or a place in the draft where you get the guy you want right now. Is there a qb who the Colts can buy right now? Make a run at Aaron Rodgers. Go buy that douche bag with the Texans. I bet they might pay the Colts to take him. The Colts need a QB NOW. Its risk reward, it always has been. You want a big reward, it will take a big risk. Would I trade an entire year of draft picks for Rickie Williams? Nope. For Peyton Manning? Hell yes. It is going to take picks and cash to A) move up in the draft, or B) sign a free agent (see Bradys last contract) or C) trade for a guy like Stafford https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/m...-lions-for-qb/ If there is another option, lets hear it. Why do the Colts keep saying no decision has been made on Carson Wentz? If you are seriously considering keeping him for next season, you are not building confidence or loyalty with a comment like that! If they decide to keep him, they will wish they would had said Carson is our QB from the beginning. Because if they keep him, Wentz is just going to feel like they only kept him because there was no better option...the relationship with Wentz is being destroyed with these non committal comments!
They either know they are not keeping him and just won't say, or they are being very foolish with these comments that serve no purpose in my opinion, and will only hurt their relationship with Wentz in the future! Last edited by CletusPyle; 02-21-2022 at 09:06 AM. |

I understand what you are saying, but there is another side to that coin. Different players react differently to the same method of criticism ...... Jimmy Johnson once pointed out that some players need a kick in the rear-end when they play badly, but that other players do not respond positively to that kind of thing. Those other players need an encouraging pat on the back, and the reassurance that they are capable of playing better and to not let a bad play (or a few bad plays) undermine their capabilities and their potential. By some accounts, Wentz appears to be the kind of guy that is (at least somewhat) conceited and thinks that he is playing better than his critics assert that he is. His strong stance on not wanting to get vaccinated seems to (at least partly) exhibit that kind of attitude ...... so, perhaps he may be the kind of player that needs someone to point out his failures and to question his ability to come through in crunch time. Maybe he needs to have the challenge of "proving his doubters wrong" thrown in his face. And if you think about it, the Colts have very little to lose in taking the risk of treating him that way ...... after all, they are only stuck with him for one more year at the most, so it's not like they have to worry about him and his feelings long-term. So ultimately, even if he confronts Irsay, Ballard, and Reich because of their obvious lack of faith in him, they can simply say "Look man, if you don't like the way that we treated you in the press, go out and prove us all wrong by having a kick-ass season. You're still our starting quarterback, so our actions of keeping you here and keeping you on the field speak louder than any words of doubt that we put out there in the press in the off-season." o

I fully agree that if Ballard has the opportunity to bring in a top tier QB then he should do damn near whatever it takes to do so. We've seen what Wentz is, and if we want to get better than maybe make the playoffs if we don't collapse type team then we need to be better at QB. |

Speaking of trading Wentz here's an Indystar article that speculates on what we could get for him:

Im taking the worse case possible. They cant dump Wentz on someone else and they dont trust his play. So that means spending what capital they have and solve the Qb situation while they have the O line and RB to make it work |
