Sunday’s game, against Tennessee, is proof of the old outage that on any given Sunday, the worst team in the league can beat the best.
Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying that the Colts are the best team in the league; just that the gulf between them is a gaping chasm. I mean, losing to Tennessee is hard work, you’ve got to try hard; and, on Sunday, the Colts did. If you’re looking at the game objectively, the Colts pretty much dominated. They outgained the Titans by almost 250 yards. The racked up 24 1st downs to Tennessee’s 11. Tennessee converted 30% of their third downs, and Cam Ward managed a whopping 102 yards through the air. The problem was that the colt, for whatever reason, pretty much wrapped this up in a package and put a bow on it. Starting out with Jalen Travis, I am not sure just what he was doing out there. There were times in which he was beaten and other times, in which he never seemed to bother trying to block the rusher. Jones was sacked six times and pressured on 30% of his drop backs. In terms of turnovers, Jones, throwing to a ragtag bunch of refugees from the practice squad, was picked off twice, deep in enemy territory. Part of the problem, on one, was the absence of Tyler Warren, who surely would have done a better job of attacking the ball than Mallory And then there was Jonathan Taylor’s fumble to lead off the second half. As far as special teams are concerned, we saw a 58 yard punt return that set up one Touchdown and a blocked punt that gave them another. All things considered, they managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat and turn what should have been a 25 point win into a 6 point loss. |
