Default Sizing up the Jaguars.

Starting out at Quarterback, I hate to disparage Trevor Lawrence. He’s had a fairly ordinary season, but he’s good enough to come back and bite you in the keister from time to time. That having been said, he has yet to throw for 300 yards in a game, this season; and he’s only had one game with an NFL grade north of 100.

At RB, they have Travis Etienne and a couple of rookies. This year, he’s 11th in the league in rushing, averaging a very nice 4.7 yards per carry. But, over his 4 year career, he’s has managed 9 100 yard games, with none coming vs the Colts. In 6 games, against the shoe he’s run up 20, 86, 77, 55, 17, and 31. That’s 286 combined yards on 74 carries, about 3.7 yards per carry.

At WR, they have a trio of Meyers, Washington, and Thomas. Not exactly bad enough to be nondescript, but not good enough to keep Defensive coordinators up into the wee hours.

At TE, though, we have another matter, entirely. Strange’s numbers are nondescript because he’s only played half a season, but he’s averaging 12 yards per catch and has the potential to pose a matchup problem for Anarumo, especially given the lack of a quality coverage backer.

Their Line has surrendered north of 30 sacks, this year, and only one of them, their RT Harrison has a PFF grade that cracks 70. Only 5 other OL’s have allowed more pressures with 169. Only 4 have given up mores sacks. In addition, their LT Little is in the concussion protocol and mekari, at RG, seems to be emerging from it.

On the D Line, they have one elite player in Hines Allen. They have the league’s 21st rushing defense. Against the pass, 12th. As a unit, the entire D has managed 24 sacks, 22nd in the league. Hines Allen generates 7. Armstead, at DT, another 6. He also generates nice pressure with 41.

At LB, the have an elite player in Devin Lloyd, but he’s had an odd season. In his first five games, he had PFF grades of 86.9, 91.2, 71.5, 87.6, and 89.9. Since then, it’s been 64.4, 54.1, 69.3, 71.2, and 58.3. The other two guys are Oloukun who’s average and Gardeck, who’s somewhere between a Jimmy and a Joe.

In the back end, they have one Corner, Newsome, who’s dreadful; another, Brown, who is ordinary. They have a nice piece, at Safety, in Johnson and another, Wingard, who’s never going to remind you of Ronnie Lott.

My guess is that it comes down to how well they handle Josh Hines-Allen. Negate him, give Jones a clean pocket, and watch the show.

Colts 30-17.

I have not been impressed with the Trevor Lawrence Jags. He seems like a Carson Wentz type of QB. Yeah, he can do the blind squirrel thing and have a great game, but he is just as likely to put out a stinker. That said, the Jags seem to be able to beat us in Jax, so there is that. I think this is the year that ends, as long as Jones can finish the game and we don't see Riley Leonard taking snaps.

Lawrence has no 300 yard games this year, but… last year he only did it twice and once was vs Colts, which was also his career best 371 yards, and his qbr for that game was 89.1 which was his second highest of that season.

That was a Bradley coached defense. I will be shocked if he does that against an Anrumo coached defense.

Lawrence has a qb rating against the Colts of 104.4.

For his career, his rating is 84.5.

Lawrence usually plays well against the Colts, especially in Florida.

We have Anarumo now but it remains to be seen if that will make a difference. Hopefully it will.
