With Richardson, could it be that some guys just fail no matter how many resources you employ to develop them? Most Quarterbacks fail. It’s just a fact of life.
Part of the problem is that we just don’t know exactly what the process for developing Richardson was. We do know that they didn’t bring in a mentor as a backup. But, then again, neither did Buffalo when they drafted Josh Allen.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not defending Ballard, Steichen or the organization. Ballard picked the wrong guy. Maybe he was prodded into the decision by Jim Irsay. We don’t know. But, by the time the draft rolled around, Ballard must have been getting, if not desperate, then something akin to it. The fact that your owner likes you only helps so much when you thrash around from Jacoby Brissett to Joe Flacco to Carson Wentz to Matt Ryan.
