In 1967, Joe Namath became the first QB in professional football history to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season (he threw for 4,007 yards.)
Namath did that in a 14-game season, and when the rules for defensive backs were stacked overwhelmingly
IN FAVOR of the defense.
To this day, even with the 17-game season and with the rules
STACKED AGAINST the defense in regard to the passing game, no Jets QB has thrown for 4,000 or more yards in a season.
