One bright spot on the D-Line...

From PFF:

Interior defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway logged five defensive stops and three tackles for loss or no gain against the run on first down this preseason, both of which ranked first among interior defensive linemen.
I like our interior rotation of Woods/Steward at NT and Ridgeway/Autry at UT. They are not superstars but I think we will get great effort and some moderate play skills out of them.

Screaming for a truely talented addition early in next year's draft (three picks in the top two rounds) but I think this group can gel.

Now, if our DEs just round into shape; but I am not expecting much. Sheard cannot do it all, Hunt has never been a pass rusher and afte those two, there are complete unknowns.

Charle Finley (x owner of Oakland Athletics) used to say that to have a super team you just need to be above average at each position. We have a way to go

I think our dline sucks balls and we will know that real soon.

Woods is ok.
Sheard is a spot starter but better backup.
We have no good 3 tech. Although autry might be good on pass downs
Hunt should have been cut.
No proven pass rush option at re.

I don’t care much how ridgeway played against 4th string guys

We don't have difference makers on the DL. Maybe Turday will surprise, I hope so. Autry had some camp hype but who knows how he will do in a consistent starting role.

I just don't see how Hunt made this team as a DE. He has never done well in that role. Any success for him has been as an interior player. How did he make the team over Simon?

At least he didn’t get dominated by them.

1st & 10 at IND 15

12 plays recorded on ESPN Play-by-Play:

2 plays in the 1st quarter (17%)
4 plays in the 2nd quarter (33%)
2 plays in the 3rd quarter (17%)
4 plays in the 4th quarter (33%)

12 tackles. 4 sacks. 3 Tackles for Loss. 2 Tackles for 2 yards or less. 3 Tackles for 4 yards or more.

75% success rate in “doing his job” which are sacks, TFL or short gains. Across all 4 quarters of football.

Not positive what your idea of success is but my idea of success is Hassan Ridgeway during the 2018 pre-season.

I hope ridgeway plays great as well. But I have seen plenty of preseason greats be terrible or underwhelming

Appreciate the time put in but your post doesn’t speak much to context

Absolutely

That is what I look for in preseason. Doesn’t mean it will translate but I hope it does

Hunt will play on ST against PUNT and FG/XPs. He made plays last year, one reason why he is still on the team.
