The Colts roster is arguably the best in the league

At Quarterback, Daniel Jones is, arguably, a top 6 or 7 talent.
At RB, Taylor has no peer.
The Wide Receiver corps exudes talent.
TE Tyler Warren is a blooming all pro type player.
Q has punched his ticket to Canton.
Raimann and Bortoiini are upper echelon players at their position.
Latu is a top 10 edge defender.
Buckner is elite on the inside.
And if there is a better defensive backfield in the league, I don’t know where to find it.

Arguably, when pro bowl voting is announced, maybe 4 Colts are out of the discussion for berths.

Goncalves is playing very well, too. Seems odd to say our weakest link is Braden Smith, and he is no slouch.

I challenge folks to name a better roster.

I think linebacker may be the weakest position group. I’d say it’s below average.

Just asked (in another thread). Is this the best D the Colts have ever had on paper?

Probably in the Indy era, I can't really speak to that other shitty city they played in. (Before anyone gets mad, I have been to Baltimore a few times, and the Inner Harbor area is pretty great, and I just have a long-standing beef with the fans.)

I'm an Oriole fan.

I'm also a Bullets/Wizards fan that has been rooting for that franchise since they were the Baltimore Bullets.

And I have been rooting for the Colts since December of 1971, when they were the Baltimore Colts.

Baltimore fans at-large are whiny, narcissistic cry-babies. They hate the Toronto Blue Jays for a decision that Clarence Gaston made 32 years ago in an exhibition game, not putting Mike Mussina into the 1993 All-Star game. They act like the song "We Are Family" emotionally traumatizes them, because the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied around that song in the 1979 World Series en-route to defeating the Orioles 4 games to 3. And they can't accept the fact that they essentially forced Robert Irsay to immediately take the Colts out of the city in the middle of the night, because of the fact that they literally tried to usurp his team via eminent domain.

It's a great roster, but I think you've placed DJ a bit too high. I can think of at least 10 QBs that are better.

I think the Baltimore hate for the Colts is pretty fsking disrespectful to the Ravens and the Browns. I dont understand where this entitlement comes from. You treat a team like shit, try to steal it, then bitch when they leave. So you steal the Browns, and then bitch when Indy comes to town.

East coasters.

A long time ago, maybe even during my time with the IndyStar message board, a raven fan said, yes, both cities took another city' team, but Baltimore changed the name and left the Browns name with Cleveland. Indy took the name and the team. I explained that I go by the name Albany Ed, because I'm from Albany and my name is Ed. I further stated that I was in the market to buy a house in Saratoga and if I did, I would change my name to Saratoga Ed. Saratoga because that would be my home and Ed because that's my name.

He went away after that.

John Steadman, the dean of Baltimore sportswriters, used his column to urge fans to boycott games. He told fans that, if no one showed up on Sunday, Irsay would be forced to sell the team to a better owner.

NFL.com has an analysis that slots him in at 7. Until last week, ESPN had him at 8.

As far as I’m concerned, after you get past the top tier of Quarterbacks, guys like Mahomes and Allen, there’s a second tier who’re probably interchangeable. I don’t see Jones much better or worse than Goff or Stafford or Love.

My response was that the Lakers remained the Lakers when they left Minneapolis. The Giants and the Dodgers names survived a 3000 mile trek westward. The Braves are still the Braves, and so were the Raiders and the Rams.

The Browns changed their names to the Orioles after Baltimore stole them from St Louis, but no one was invested enough in the team to care about one way or another.

No, the 2007 defense was elite. 2 HOF caliber pass rushers, DPOY Bob Sanders leading the Hit Squad, which was basically the Colts' version of the Legion of Boom (Sanders, Bethea, Jackson and Hayden were all very physical in coverage and as tacklers), and Gary Brackett playing the best ball of his career. That defense led the league in points allowed, and didn't really have a weak spot in the starting unit. This group is close, but I would say LB is a weakness and EDGE is functional, but not elite. If Latu continues to break out that could change, but for now, this team does not generate pressure at a better than average clip.

The common act is to relocate, but keep the team history. That's what the Colts, Rams, Raiders, etc. did.

Then there's the Titans who did the common act... but then Bud Adams killed the Oilers two years later.

Then there's Browns where Art Modell was going to do the Titans route (before the Titans), but there was a whole big fucking thing with the league and the city. So he just left them and was allowed to essentially create an expansion team Ravens.

He didn't "give the Browns back" because he never took them, they were in a trust. Then a new ownership comes in and revives them or however that worked, and the city got to keep all the history and likeness.

Now we're at an odd number, so Houston gets a new team, but the Oilers didn't get the Browns treatment. So they had to invent a new franchise and chose the stupidest fucking name for a team in the league.

I think I just Colts-and-Orioles'd all over this thread.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy with how DJ has performed so far and I do believe that with the addition of the special Sauce, this team can be a serious contender. That said, here is a list of QBs that if offered a straight up trade one of them for DJ, I would pull the trigger.

Josh Allen
Lamar Jackson
Patrick Mahomes
Justin Herbert
Joe Burrow
Dak Prescott
Baker Mayfield
Matt Stafford
Jayden Daniels
Jaylon Hurts
CJ Stroud
Jared Goff
Jordan Love

That list makes me sad only because Baker wanted to come to Indy and Colts leadership said "naw." We could have gotten him for a song a couple of years ago which would have made these last few years much, much better.

But, oh well, it is the Daniel Jones era in Indy now. GO COLTS!

Not as sad as you would have been had Peyton Manning wound up playing for the New York jets, and not the Colts ...... if Manning had left Tennessee one year earlier than he did, like many were expecting him to, that's what would have happened.
