Dayum. Two first round picks?

Wow. Who kidnapped Ballard and started making moves in his place.

Is Gardner actually worth 2 firsts?

Racehorse 11-04-2025 01:57 PM

I think we overpaid, but if we get a SB in return, I would change my mind.

Hoopsdoc 11-04-2025 01:57 PM

Looks like he signed a 4 year extension at the beginning of this year so he’s locked up for a while. Still, dayum.

If it’s 2 picks in the 20’s or lower, then I’d say yes. Seems like the guy is a legit shutdown corner.

4th overall pick 3 years ago.

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 11-04-2025 02:01 PM

AD Mitchell is also headed to the Jets as part of the trade.

Did we throw in the second first rounder to get them to take him?

Mr. Session 11-04-2025 02:08 PM

I must be a stingy mf'er because two firsts AND a player sounds nuts to me.

I've been wrong before. The evidence is on the forum. But damn.

Kray007 11-04-2025 02:11 PM

Ballard must think we’re close and this is a final piece.

nate505 11-04-2025 02:23 PM

On the one hand, this sounds like an overpay.

On the other hand, dude is legit and I'm pretty impressed Ballard made a move this ballsy.

In terms of fit, Sauce Gardner is probably as good as it gets for Lou Anarumo.

Anarumo really cares about size, speed, and press man coverage ability.

Having arguably the two best fits for his system in the league on each side of the field should do wonders for his defense

Lou Anarumo might blitz every passing down now that he has Sauce, Mooney, Kenny Moore II in press coverage behind it.

nate505 11-04-2025 02:29 PM

I may hate this in a few years, but I'm really sold now.

Then again, I drank the Trent Richardson kool aid when that happened, and that was one of the worst trades I've seen. Still, Gardner has proven himself way more than TR did.

Brylok 11-04-2025 02:34 PM

I love it!
We get Sauce Gardner for a couple of lower end 1st round picks, and we get AD Mitchell off the team! Excellent!
Kenny and Sauce will be fun to watch.

apballin 11-04-2025 02:34 PM

Love it, packers gave up 2 firsts and a player for parsons so that was the baseline

Hoopsdoc 11-04-2025 02:37 PM

One thing about Ballard, he’s not afraid to make a big move if he believes in the player he’s getting.

This reminds me of the Buckner trade. Let’s just hope it turns out as well.

Kray007 11-04-2025 02:43 PM

When you look at the definition of shut down corner, you see a photo of Gardner.

Agreed... this is way too much in my view. CB playing with Monopoly money at this point methinks.

Hope I am wrong in any case but not thrilled by this move.

Racehorse 11-04-2025 02:47 PM

I see this as a move to improve the pass rush. Corners who can cover give the rushers more time to get to the QB, and we have been getting close. Now, we should see the pressures become sacks.

Racehorse 11-04-2025 02:54 PM

I would guess that with Mitchell thrown in, we see an extension on Pierce in the near future.

Hoopsdoc 11-04-2025 02:54 PM

I think the odds we resign Pierce just went way up. Mitchell was in theory a perfect replacement for Pierce, except he sucked in real life.

Gonna need a deep threat if we want Jones to be successful.

Puck 11-04-2025 02:57 PM

I love that we got Sauce. I have wanted him since he was drafted. I hate losing AD. (now we have to sign AP)

2 - 1sts. That's a lot but hopefully we will be drafting 25-32 for the next couple years.

So it's not that bad. Hopefully this helps the pass rush

And we are not worrying about a QB anymore. He's already on the team

Go get a ring and that price means nothing

DragonTails 11-04-2025 02:57 PM

I would have preferred to have Logan Wilson much cheaper but seems we were late on that.

ukcolt 11-04-2025 03:01 PM

If we had a late 30 pick in next years draft, and Gardner was being drafted No. 4 overall I wouldn't even think about giving up this years, pick and the following year to get up that high, and what is AD Mitchell currently worth? A 4th rounder? Peanuts in the grand scheme of things. I love this trade and don't think we have over paid in any way shape or form.

Not sure I see your logic.

BCN#1 11-04-2025 03:16 PM

Just to clarify my concern, we give up 2 first and AD for arguably an awesone CB but b¡g money down the road owed and if he get injured right away, then WTF?

Hate to be a negative Nelly here here but still seems a high price. I hope like hell you all are right and I am full of shit as my wife usually tells me. :-)

Butter 11-04-2025 03:30 PM

It i a lot, but he is still only 25. I am surprised the Jets are trading him to be honest.

HoosierinFL 11-04-2025 03:35 PM

I'm happy about the trade in principle but damn that is a high price. A 1st and a 3rd + AD is a price I could live with. 2 1sts and he damn well better transform this D!

I get that it’s a steep price but the dude is a 2 time all pro at a premium position who’s only 25 years old. And he’s under contract through 2030, i believe.

You HAVE to make that trade, especially considering only 10 percent of first round picks ever make all pro.

To me it’s a no brainer.

With this addition, I feel confident that the Colts will have one of 5 best records this year and maybe next year as well. Go look at the past 7 years of draft picks from 27th to 32. I think you'll find that for the most part, getting arguably the best CB in the game, one who has a 4 year contract already signed, sealed and delivered is more than worth it. As for losing AD, let's just let ChoppedWood weigh in on that.

I'm def not worried about losing AD, he has potential still but at this point he's still developmental and Dulin is holding down the WR4 spot very solidly.

If we need a body, bring back Zach Pascal!

Any NFL player can be injured at any time. On and off the field. It's just a risk you have to take.

sherck 11-04-2025 04:58 PM

Two 1st seems steep......

However, if you told me in the 2026 draft that we would trade our 1st round pick (late in the draft) and our 2027 1st round pick (hopefully late in the draft) for the #6 pick overall where we would pick a stud, lockdown CB, I would be all for it.

The fact that the stud, lockdown CB in question already has two pro-bowls under his belt, is only 25 and is signed through the 2030 season is incredible.

I am not worried about the cap hits. The next four years are more than managable and by the time we get to the last two years, the cap will have risen enough to fit those hits in.

This trade seems in everyones favor.
