The Colts' Placekicking, 2025 Season
o
Maybe Michael Badgley can be this season's Matt Stover, and be a solid-but-not-spectacular kicker for the Colts on a trip to a Super Bowl appearance ...... that's what happened in 2009 when Stover had to pinch-hit for the injured Adam Vinatieri. https://media.gettyimages.com/id/964...M0txajduUHqjE= o |

Stover was 41 years-old when he kicked for the Colts that season, and he was 9-for-11 on FG attempts and 33-for-33 on Xtra Point attempts. In the post-season he was 6-for-7, with the only miss coming on a 51-yard attempt in the Super Bowl. If you were expecting more from him, that would be asking a lot. o |

Oh, OK. But the way that you worded it implied that Stover didn't carry his weight. Now that you mention it, a 51-yard FG attempt 16 years ago would be like a 55-yard FG attempt today. 60-yard attempts are not uncommon today, but they were back then. The Colts probably should have gone for it on 4th down with Manning and the offense in that situation. o |
o
(vs. STEELERS, 11/02) Badley kicked a two FG's of more than 50 yard today (52 yards and 53 yards, respectively.) Badgley is 5-for-5 in FG attempts, and 14-for-15 in X-tra Point attempts so far this season. Whoever decided to sign this guy appears to have a good eye for kickers. o |
Cam Little just kicked a 68 yard FG. They have got to narrow the goal posts.
|
o
(vs. FALCONS, 11/09) Badgley missed 2 kicks today ...... a 32-yard X-Tra Point, and a 53-yard FG attempt. He did convert on a clutch, 44-yard FG with only seconds remaining in the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime. o |

We have to do better than this guy |

Also worked out
Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero · 41m In addition to Blake Grupe, the Colts worked out kickers Maddux Trujillo and Justin Tucker today. https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/19...846392322?s=20 |

And this is why it's a good thing that I am not the Colts' GM ..... it's about the 2,397th time that I have been wrong about something since I started posting here. o |

Grupe’s career numbers look terrible, i cant believe hes an upgrade over Badgley.
Obligatory fuck the raiders. |
Special Teams coordinator Brian Mason came from Notre Dame. Grupe went to Notre Dame. That's why they signed him.
Probably should have just kept Badgely, but we'll see. |
At this point, I would bring back Matt Gay to play the remainder of this season.
I would have been fine signing him to the practice squad after Washington released him and had him ready in case Badgley imploded. But the 49'ers had a need with their kicker Eddy Piñeiro injured and San Fran was able to promise him the job on game days immediately and give him a better opportunity. The 49'ers have their bye this week and expect Piñeiro back for their next game. So Matt Gay is currently sitting on their practice squad...the Colts could easily poach him right now. But maybe they are allowing San Fran to keep him around in case Piñeiro is not ready. Matt Gay has been 100% on XP's the last two seasons. His FG completion percentage looked ugly this year because Washington decided to let him attempt a lot of FG over 50 yards - and (as I would expect) that didn't turn out well. |
o
(vs. SEAHWAKS, 12/14) Prior to today, l Blake Grupe's l career-long FG was a 57-yarder in 2024 ...... today, he kicked a 60-yarder in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter with the team trailing by 2 points. o |
o
(DECEMBER 28th) Blake Grupe's l is 8-for-8 on FG Attempts, including 3-for-3 from 50 yards-and-beyond. Blake Grupe's l is 7-for-7 on Extra-Point Attempts. o |
