Well, looks like we will find out quickly how much was scheme and how much was lack of talent, or a combination of both!

YDFL Commish 01-20-2025 06:34 PM

Okay, do you think he keeps anyone from the current staff? Namely Charlie Partridge?

CletusPyle 01-20-2025 08:01 PM

I know nothing about this guy other than the Bengals fired him.......:D

OVER/UNDER games to when Chopped starts freaking out on the hire? Need a starting point.

Well now Ballard is going to have to dump some players & add talent because Anarumo's system is not at like Bradley's.

He’s gonna need cornerbacks for sure and probably a free agent pass rusher.

o

Chopped Wood is going to freak out, period ........ it's what he does.

Regardless of how well this particular hire works out, Chopped Wood will freak out on a daily basis and express his desire to fuck somebody (usually somebody who has ever had anything to do with the Indianapolis Colts.)

o

Games? How about plays instead?

At the first sight of a dude being 18 yards off the WR on a 3rd and 3, well shit, the GBTSD is going to kick in and shit is going to start flying!

That is a fair reason to go ballistic.

I think if Brents can stay healthy and actually be what I think he could be (he's shown flashes), we actually have a decent CB room. I'm probably retarded but I think we have two physical guys that want to be sticky defenders and with Kenny in the slot, we have a nice setup there.

I'm relieved we're getting a guy with experience, and he appears to be intense in the same way Shane is, so perhaps that combination improves the team's adherence to a culture of accountability and professionalism in a way that was not possible under Bradley because Bradley is clearly a nice guy.

I have the same read on the situation. My perception is that it was more of an issue on that side of the ball. I hope that's right, because a new authority could ostensibly fix a lot of problems, beyond X's and O's.

I think we have the football players, they just need to be more uncomfortable day-to-day. Comfort = complacency.

By the way, here's a video of Anorumo from the same guy that did the Martindale video in the DC thread.

Brents staying healthy is a big enough if that we shouldn't really count on him in '25. At the very least we should spend an early draft pick at CB and/or bring in a decent vet. If Brents can stay healthy and beat out said draft pick/vet then so be it. At least then we'll have some depth.

With that being said FS needs to be the priority on D as a good one is a must in Anorumo's defense.

I agree 100% with everything said here. The issue is, as of right now, there are no true free agent free safeties I would go after. There are a few guys who might get interest, like Justin Simmons, Javon Holland and Andre Cisco. None of them really move the needle of improvement.

We may have to wait for some cuts.

Very true.

Reminds me of Paris Campbell.

This move has pissed off a lot of fans on social media. I am glad we have a mostly sane group here that knows actual football.

I'm not sure what to make of the hire myself. His defenses got progressively better in his first 3 years in Cincy, 2022 he fielded a top defense finishing 5th best in yards against, and also in points against.
But they also regressed since then. 21st in YA and 12th in PA in 2023, and in 2024 they were 25th in YA (Colts were 24th) and and 26th in PA (Colts were 24th).

So I like his talk of accountability, but why did the Bengals defense regress so bad since 2022? I don't follow them close enough so was it the players? The GM made bad decisions and didn't build the roster well enough?

I haven't dug into yet, but I've heard that the GM made some questionable moves on defense.

I'll take that with a grain of salt until I read. Believe it or not... Bengals fans say that Mike Brown is problem, and Duke Tobin is the problem, and Zac Taylor is the problem, and Lou Anarumo is the problem, and burn it to the ground.

Shocking, I know.

Jevon Holland would definitely be an improvement if he's available. Why would the Dolphins let him walk, though?

Because they're the Dolphins?

The Bungles let Jessie Bates III walk after the 2022 season. He was their starting FS and made the pro bowl in '23 w/ ATL (kinda surprised he didn't make it again this year). This is why I was commenting that we really need an upgrade at FS.

They also let DJ Reader, who was their starting NT, leave after ther '23 season. I'm sure this was a big hit to their run D.

I wouldn't put Brents in the same camp as Campbell yet, but he's well on his way. Jelani Woods on the other the hand is definitely in the same camp as Campbell.
