From 1953 through the present, the Colts have had some good kickers ...... but Matt Gay is the first to have botted 3 50-plus yard FG's in the same game, though.

He's a Gay....not that there is anything wrong with that!:D

After his efforts today, he is likly more exicted and estatic than simply happy and gay!:D

Can’t believe Ballard spent money on a kicker! Awful move! What was he thinking!?!

It changes how a defense plays if you have a long ranged weapon.

...and a kicker finally missed a kick against us!

He is $$$$$

It may not be sexy, it adds up. It takes pressure off of the Offense to crank out big plays.

The Colts won this by the law of accumulation: a lot of little things add up

That is a comment the haters have actually said. Unbelievable the depths they go to.

After watching these last few years only an idiot would be upset that Ballard spent money to fix the kicking issue.

A kicker should not be put into a position to have to kick 4 from 50+, but I sure am glad our kicker was one to NAIL them all! $$$$

I couldn’t believe Tucker left his short.

I hear the Balt defense is pretty good, so getting the ball into FG territory four times is a good thing. Well, we actually got there six times, but twice we got closer, once into the EZ.

Hard to believe considering the broadcast team was riding Tucker's tip like Lisa Ann.

Him coming up short on the 61 yarder was almost comical.

How times have changed ......

When I first started watching football in the early 1970's, a 40-yard field goal attempt was considered long-range.

Today, when a kicker misses a 61-yard field goal attempt, you'll here a comment such as "I can't believe that he came up short on that very makeable 61-yard attempt."

(ONE WEEK LATER)


In addition to missing a 47-yard FG attempt yesterday, head coach Shane Steichen eschewed giving Gay a chance to add 3 points by going for it on 4th down on the Rams' 31-yardline with almost 4 minutes left to play in the 4th quarter ...... with that much time on the clock, I would have liked to have seen Steichen let Gay attempt a 48-yard FG to try to cut the deficit to 23-11.

On the whole, I believe that Gay is a keeper and that he will be a major asset for the 2023 season.

(vs. JAGUARS, 10/15)


Of the 2 field goals that Gay booted today, one of them was a 56-yarder.

He is 11-for-12 on FG's for the season, and 13-for-13 on XP's.

(vs. PANTHERS, 11/05)


Of the 2 field goals that Gay booted today, one of them was a 57-yarder.

He is 16-for-18 on FG's for the season (16-for-17, if you take into consideration that of the "misses" was blocked), and 24-for-24 on XP's.

6 out of his 16 made field goals have been from 50 yards and beyond, and 9 out of the 16 have been from 40 yards and beyond.

Such an improvement over Spec's, who over analyzed everything. Just kick the fucking ball!

Specs has nowhere near the leg that Gay does either. He was 2/5 from 50+, and I'm surprised he hit 2 of them :cool:

My wife and I were talking about this... if his accuracy issues of late have been impacted perhaps by an injury.

We never should have tried to kick that 58 yarder. we should have taken the DoG, 5 yards and had Sanchez go for the coffin.

When nobody says a word about the team's place-kicker in a very close game, that can be a good thing ...... it was in the game against the Titans ...... Matt Gay quietly made both of his FG attempts and both of his extra-point attempts in a 20-17 win.

(vs. DOLPHINS, 10/20)


For the 3rd consecutive game, Gay made all of his kicks (FG's and X-tra Points.)

In his last 3 games combined, Gay is 14-for-14 (7 FG's, 7 X-tra Points.)

In his last 7 games, Matt Gay is 29-for-30.

I think Gay's 60 yard FG would have went in from 60+ I think that he has fought his way back to being a reliable kicker.

On the other hand, future Hall-of-Famer l Justin Tucker l missed 2 FG-attempts in the Ravens' 18-16 loss to the Steelers.

Tucker is 16-for-22 on the season ...... those were great numbers 50 years ago, but rather pedestrian in today's game.
