Looks like no JT trade today - Taylor will remain on PUP

Source: The Colts will keep RB Jonathan Taylor on the PUP list, an indication no trade is imminent.

No deal: Indianapolis did not find what it felt was a fair-value offer for Jonathan Taylor and it is not trading its All-Pro running back today, league sources tell ESPN.

With no trade materializing today, Taylor now is expected to remain on the PUP List, making him ineligible to play the first four games of the season.

Taylor will now miss games vs. the Jaguars, at Houston, at Baltimore and vs. the Rams.

There was significant interest from two teams.

In the end, GM Chris Ballard did not feel it was enough.

And thus, no trade.

The Colts’ next best opportunity to deal their All-Pro RB could be before the NFL’s Oct. 31 trade deadline.

If no deal by then, Colts could tag Jonathan Taylor and try to trade him again this off-season.

But there is no end of this drama currently in sight.

Are we to assume this dude is really hurt?

Spike 08-29-2023 04:16 PM

Good!

I wouldn't have traded JT for anything less than a 1st rounder and I sure as hell wouldn't waive him.

Glad the Colts didn't cave in to JT's demands. He's under contract, just play it out. Then figure it out at the end of it.

Only path to the bag is through us, Jon.

You want out so bad, run like it.

We’re less than two weeks from opening day and this dude hasn’t even practiced.

He wasn’t playing right away even if he is healthy.

Brylok 08-29-2023 04:40 PM

What a dickhead.

ChoppedWood 08-29-2023 04:49 PM

Dude must have cheated his way to all those academic accolades because judging by this train wreck, JT aint too smart. Dude is on the thin edge of seeing his career go the way of Laveon Bell. What a fucking idiot.

I’m just glad it appears the team is sticking to its guns. For now.

Don’t reward the asshole for being an asshole.

Tuesday did nothing to solve impasse. Trade still possible until Oct. 31 deadline. Don't rule out conduct detrimental to team hammer being used if JT doesn't pass physical at some point.

good

taylor has handled this in a piss poor way. you are under contract. you made in known you are unhappy. now either suit up or sit down and forfeit your checks.

never would have guessed this would have ended up like this.

On top of that... I just read an SI article that mentioned something I didn't know about the PUP list...

Normally only the NFI list can keep a player from accruing a season of service. But...

Apparently the PUP list can also do that in the specific situation of a player in the final year of their contract who remains on PUP for 6 weeks and doesn't play all year.

So Taylor would come back next year still on his rookie deal.

Oldcolt 08-30-2023 01:47 PM

It appears that the Colts asked Miami for Jaylen Waddle. He is the same age as JT, a high level WR. People are saying that asking this is a 'wild request' that had zero chance of ever happening. It goes to show you how people look at the running back position. JT is a top 5 back in the NFL, I don't think Waddle is that at WR-hell he isn't even the best WR on his team-and yet it is ridiculous to think that Miami would trade him for a great running back. JT needs to wake up and realize as good as he is he is just a complimentary piece.

Dolphin fans balked whenever that trade suggestion was made. They are clueless though, they wanted to offload their worst FA signings for JT and just expected the Colts to take it. Delusional fanbase.

ChaosTheory 08-30-2023 02:26 PM

I laugh when all these people get mad at the Colts asking for a 1st-rounder. "You don't want to pay him top money, but you want top return?"

I'm thinking, no, dummies... the point was to prove the opposite: "JT can't warrant a 1st-rounder, so we're not going to pay him top money."

Colts didn't really expect a 1st, they just wanted to show that nobody else would "pay" for JT, either.

That reeks of bullshit put out by the agent to make the Colts look bad. I don’t believe that for one second.

Holder and Chappell have both said they weren’t even offered a 2nd round pick.

That’s MUCH more plausible.

Oldcolt 08-30-2023 05:46 PM

How in the hell is asking for your number two wide receiver in exchange for what everyone believes is an all-pro back; who if not the best pure runner in the NFL is damn close to it, outrageous?

Of course they were not offered a 2nd rd pick. His agent is a dick and has poisoned JT. The Colts wanted to show him wtf his real worth is on the open market was. It's not very high.

I think JT is just an emotional guy that can be manipulated...it happens to the best of us.

Hell when I was 24, I was the biggest dumb ass out there.

Waddle was the 6th overall pick two years ago. He’s had two decent years. He has three years left on a relatively cheap rookie deal. He’s the same age as Taylor, doesn’t have near the mileage, plays a much more important position, and doesn’t cost the draft picks and a huge contract to keep.

It’s asinine. Ridiculous. The Colts would know better than even asking.

The dolphins GM said as much today. He said if any team calls about Waddle, he’s hanging up the phone.

That’s bullshit spread by the agent. Nothing more.

ChaosTheory 08-31-2023 02:30 PM

I know it's a beaten horse, but it's the only Colts-related media out right now...

I keeping reading/listening to these takes and it occurred to me that people just don't have a grasp on the overall issue, which is the value of the RB position.

Instead, people conflate "the RB position" with "this particular RB." Meaning they'll talk about all the valuable things the "RB position" does for a team, but then conclude that it makes "this particular RB" that valuable.

Which misses the point. Nobody is saying that what any of these RB's do is not valuable. In fact, it's super important. What is being said (and not heard) is that there are too many "this particular RB"s that can provide a team with the valuable things the "RB position" does.

It's been said before, but great RB's used to be the cake batter. You couldn't make a great cake without one. Now they're the cherry on top. The difference between winning a SB and getting bounced in the WC is so slim that a great RB can tip the scales for a great team...

But a great RB is not going turn a poor team into a playoff team.

Oldcolt 08-31-2023 03:05 PM

This team shows the reality of NFL offenses. Two years ago we were built around JT's running. And he was incredible-still we didn't make the playoffs. Our offense is now built around AR with the running backs serving an incredibly important role, but it is still a only a supportive role to the QB. This is the way all modern NFL offenses are. When was the last time a coach was hired that was a genius in the run game? We need JT because we need playmakers. Polian used to say you need a certain number of playmakers on offense and on defense-that it wasn't particularly important what they played as long as they could alter the course of a game by their own play. JT can do that. So can scores of other dudes, but once you have one on your team it is a bitch to lose him over this kind of bullshit. They don't fall off trees. I am hoepful he ends up playing for us not because he wants to but because both sides need each other. I do love watching him run.

It is a far cry from 70,71,72, when we took Bulaich in the 1st rd, then McCauley in the 1st rd and then Lydell Mitchell in the 2nd rd. Can you imagine the outrage if a GM were to that today?

Bulaich, there is a name from the past. Didn't he run for like close to 200 years in his first game?

JT should " thank " this post !!

Chris Green, Miami's GM, states that there were no offers made just for JT, only exploratory talks.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/j...er-made-offer/

IndyNorm 09-10-2023 08:54 AM

Apparently we asked for Christian Watson from GB in our trade talks over JT, and they said no.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ks-sources-say

Seems like that might have favored GB if JT is healthy (which the article quotes a source saying that he is), since Watson is still developing and outside of a 4 game stretch last year was pretty inconsistent.
