Panthers trade up to #1

Reports are Chicago and Carolina have agreed to a trade:

Carolina gets first pick this year

Chicago gets:

2023 #9 overall
2023 #61 overall
2024 1st rounder
2025 2nd rounder
WR DJ Moore

It sucks that another QB will be off the board at 4, but I’m glad Colts aren’t giving up that much to move up. I like Stroud, but I’m not positive he’s a star.

Nightmare scenario if true.

Glad it wasn't us. Frank must want Levis bad.

You mean, dead rising from their graves, seas boiling, skies on fire, dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA!!!

I’m really surprised they made a deal this early. It’s not like Carolina offered a king’s ransom that blows you away. At 9, they’ll get a solid player, but the 2 game changing defenders, Anderson and Carter, will both be off the board.

Hopefully you're right. Doubt that's the case though

Lov2fish 03-10-2023 06:59 PM

Stroud to Panthers
Young to Texicans
Cardinals- Carter?
Colts- Levis or Richardson.

I would not be opposed to the Colts trading back and snagging Hooker or McKee in the 2nd. round (Neither of them are worth a 1st. either). They are both about even with Hooker getting the nod for a little stronger arm.

Mr. Session 03-10-2023 07:02 PM

Go BPA or start trading down and preparing for next year.

I'm not losing any sleep. It is what it is.

I'm surprised Carolina didn't have to give up more as well.

Not if Richardson was the target all along

I'm not. Bears fans pipe dream of getting our 1 and 2 and next year's 1 and 2 was exactly that, a pipe dream. Quite frankly this was an overpay by Carolina, but now they get Stroud.

Hoopsdoc 03-10-2023 07:47 PM

Welp, it’s either Levis or Richardson then, unless Carolina or Houston throws a curveball.

If it’s between those two, I want Richardson.

Jalen Carter and wait until next year. Tank for #1 and get whoever the top guy is then.

Discflinger 03-10-2023 07:54 PM

Tennessee already beat us to Tankathon 23’.

I would have thought we would have to give up at least what the Giants did in '04 to get Eli: #4 overall, this years 3rd rounder, next years 1st and 5ths.

For the Bears to move down 5 more spots the Panthers gave up the #9 overall, end of 2nd rounder, next year's 1st, '25's 2nd, and a productive WR. Seems pretty comparable to above when you consider the Bears are moving down 5 more spots than what the Chargers did in '04.

Depends on how you value DJ Moore. Still think it's an overpay, but that's irrelevant unless they really love Levis.

Not if the Colts have Sam Ehlinger, Will Levis, or Anthony Richardson as their starting QB. Any of those 3 will put the Colts LEAGUES ahead of the field for the #1 pick in 2024.

ChaosTheory 03-10-2023 09:02 PM

Panthers were the least likely of the 5 QB teams I thought would land the #1. I didn't think CHI would get out of the Carter/Anderson range. I guess nobody else thinks any of these QB's are worth that second 1st rounder.

Good that we're not overpaying, good that Irsay isn't pushing to do so.

So either they feel that Steichen can work with any of these QB's or those early reports about them liking Levis may have been true or they're actually going to say fuck any of these QB's and either take a stud/trade back.

Rumor now is Arizona is shopping the 3rd pick. Colts might be left with the 4th choice.

Hoopsdoc 03-10-2023 09:14 PM

Hmmm, interesting.

According to Florio, Carolina has let it be known they’re willing to move back from 1.

That makes me wonder if they’re not interested in Levis or Richardson.

Go get that #1 pick Ballard!

My guess is they’re daring Houston to come up and get Young if they want him.

They’re not trading with Ballard. They won’t go that far back.

Hoopsdoc 03-10-2023 09:34 PM

Carolina is taking Stroud. I’d bet good money on it.

We’ll see what Frank can do with a talented young qb.

Brylok 03-10-2023 09:34 PM

My biggest fear for the off season was betting the whole farm on one of those four guys. Glad that threat has passed.

The Bears were only going to trade with the Colts or Texans, too. Hope is still alive.

It's true. Forget Stroud. We have zero chance now to get him. Tank next year for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Also, fire Ballard. No balls & he sucks at his job

What? Why would you execute a trade, then try to crawl out of it? How do they come out ahead?

Lol, wut?

Poles was always going to trade to the highest bidder. He literally said as much.

There is no way in hell Carolina is moving back to 4 unless by some weird chance they rate Stroud, Young, Levis, and Richardson as pretty much the same. And if they did, they would have traded a lot less to Arizona to get to 3.

Carolina has their eyes on Stroud or Young. My guess is Stroud.

They’re not moving back past 2 or 3.

Because they have their eye on one guy and they knew he wouldn’t be there at 9.

They feel like he’ll probably be there at 2 or 3.

Trade back and recoup some of their losses.

I’m not sure any of these guys is worth what Carolina gave up. Two 1’s, two 2’s, and a borderline number 1 receiver.

If one is, it’s worth it.

If not, everyone is getting fired and the franchise is set back 10 years.

It did take balls to make the move, though.

ChaosTheory 03-10-2023 10:03 PM

Soap opera. So now they're willing to trade back... as in to the Texans only?

What would they want to go back to #4? Or would the Colts have to get to #3 before they'd listen?

Assuming the Colts even care to be in play for this anymore.

Colts got tea bagged by Carolina.

Dewey 5 03-10-2023 10:40 PM

Now Arizona will trade their pick, which the nutless Ballard will have no interest in because he's a pussy, & we will really be screwed.

He really doesnt. He has been playing catchup since Luck missed the season and he brought in Brisett rather than tank.

The vets on the O line let the team down, and Ballard blew the O line replacements. It took more than one person to create last season.

And its going to take more than one rookie Qb it straighten it out. And its going to take more than one draft to make the Colts a contender. You give away 4 high draft picks you are forced to put more money on FA’s and not save money on talented , less expensive guys you will need in the future.

apballin 03-10-2023 10:47 PM

Richardson is the pick he fits the Colts more than any of these QBs he’s a humble and hungry dude

Ballard wasn’t selling the farm for 1

I don't know about that. They gave up a fucking lot. A fucking lot in a draft where the idea of trading up for one of these guys seems iffy at best.

Clearly the Colts, Texans, Raiders, or Seahawks aren't that convinced.

Butter 03-10-2023 11:21 PM

So much angst over a mediocre group of QBs.

Because mediocre is a massive upgrade for the Colts.
