And another! Colts are trading RB Nyheim Hines to the Buffalo Bills, sources tell ESPN.

Looks like the Colts and Bills are swapping RB's with the Colts picking up a draft pick as well.

The Bills are trading RB Zack Moss and a 6th-round pick that can go to a 5th-rounder to the Colts for RB Nyheim Hines, sources tell me and Mike Garafolo

We get RB Zack Moss and a conditional 6th. Either Hines wanted to leave and made it known or Ballard got fleeced.

Terrible trade, FUCK Ballard.

Good for Hines though, at least he has a chance for a SB.

Lov2fish 11-01-2022 04:26 PM

Unless he wanted out this trade makes zero sense. Good for Hines though, going to a contender and competent staff/front office.

He had to have made it known he wanted out. Which, i mean, who can blame him?

Otherwise this makes zero sense at all.

Good for him. Maybe McDermott can use him right.

Apparently Hines would count $6,000,000 towards the cap in 2023. Most likely why he was traded.

Brylok 11-01-2022 04:50 PM

If I were in Hines' shoes, I'd have done the same thing. Hmm, should I stay on this crappy Colts team, or go to Buffalo?

No brainier there. Good luck dude! Go win a Superbowl!

I don't think Hines' cap hit is quite that high, but Hines is very well compensated for a RB - he is currently projected as the 15th highest cap hit for RB's for 2023 since many RB's are on rookie deals.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings...-back/cap-hit/

But I agree - I think the move was made to re-adjust funds in next year's budget.

Also wonder if Buffalo keeps Hines or if he ends up being a rental. If he stays with the Bills, I imagine they will try to renegotiate his contract.

Dewey 5 11-01-2022 05:08 PM

Good for Hines. He now has a legit shot at a ring. Fuck Ballard. Fire him please

I think you're right. Cap hit was $2.8m and $2.0m the past two years. Will be around $4.8m and $5.5m next two years assuming it's not redone.

YDFL Commish 11-01-2022 05:21 PM

not much of a loss when Hines lack of usage is considered.

How laughable does it seem now, after Reich's bluster about Hines putting up huge fantasy numbers.

Oldcolt 11-01-2022 05:27 PM

Ballard loves him his mouth. Talks a big game All talk.

HoosierinFL 11-01-2022 05:40 PM

I don’t have a problem with this. Hines is a liability in the run game. He’s too undersized to be running between the tackles - we just got done complaining about this in another thread.

What good is a back up RB who can’t be counted on to get positive yardage in the run game? Sure’s he’s made some really good catches, including this last game on that fade, but that’s why we have WRs. Hines isnt such a great receiver that he should be getting looks like that over Pittman/Campbell/Pierce. We can do just fine throwing to RBs in the flat or on wheel routes, and all the other 3 RBs on the roster can do that, plus actually take handoffs and get yards. Hines doesn’t even get YAC as a receiver for that matter.

Hines is a gimmick/gadget type player and we don’t do the fundamentals well enough to be trying gimmicks. We’re just trying to win football games.

There’s been a ton of hype surrounding his skill set for the past few years but where’s the production outside of a handful of nice catches?

ChoppedWood 11-01-2022 05:46 PM

I love these hypotheticals conversations:

Ballard: "Hey Nyheim, we need to talk. I hear you are frustrated with the team. Frank said the other day when you came off the field you yelled at him that he was a stupid fuck"

Hines: "No, no, not what happened. I made an 18 yard catch and was called off the field for next play. I was walking by Brady and he looked at me and said - "don't blame me, this is Frank's call. So I looked over and saw Frank had that stupid fucking play sheet that everyone knows doesn't even have plays on it, he was looking down at it pretending to locate the next play, so I just yelled at him to quit pretending to be a coach you stupid fuck".

Ballard: "Well Frank wants to trade you, what should we do?"

Hines: "What should you do, you should fire that idiot, that's what you should do. I am one of the fastest players in the NFL, but I'm not a bruiser, and that dumb ass plays me like every 6th play and when I am on the field he runs me up the middle. Did you see the TD I got this weekend- how many times have we even tried to run outside this year, like 3?

No, tell ya what, cut me, stab me, shoot me, just get me away from that fucking moron. Oh and while you are at it, you should fire him and then you should resign because you are just as stupid as he is, Matt fucking Pryor, dude how do you look at yourself in the mirror and how does your wife stand telling people you are a football GM."

That's how I like to visualize Hines getting out of here. Good for him, damn he just adds another layer of skill to that lethal machine.

Dam8610 11-01-2022 06:07 PM

This is entirely a cap and youth move, which tells me all I need to know about how this team views their decision to put in Sam Ehlinger.

Good post. I was on the improper usage bandwagon but have come off that. the money/cap savings will help going forward and the lack of hines wont be much of a factor.

Hines problem is we haven’t had a quarterback good enough to make him effective since old man Rivers. He caught 63 balls that year and was a decent threat out of the backfield.

I think he’s perfect for Buffalo. He has an elite quarterback who is also a running threat and a great offensive mind as coach.

I think Hines will absolutely kill it there.

Again, good for him. If that pick ends up being a 5th, I’ll be ok with the trade.

albany ed 11-01-2022 07:13 PM

If he wanted out, I don't blame him. He was never used correctly here and if the Bills use him correctly, he's gonna be a star with a SB ring. He was one of my favorite players.

IndyNorm 11-01-2022 07:24 PM

Clearly a salary cap move, although looks like Hines had $0 guaranteed for '23 and '24 so we may have released him in the offseason. Hope he does well in Buff and gets a ring. Too bad our coaching staff forgot how to use him after '20.

Moss and a 6th is fine value depending on how much you like Moss. Count me in the "cap savings and flexibility is the best part of this deal" camp.

It will be interesting to see if Moss can beat out Jackson for the #2 spot, looking at his stats he only has 17 carries this season, but he's averaged over 5 yards a carry. Looks like the Bills were looking to trade him and had been holding him out of the lineup the last few games.

This is a great move for Hines....Buffalo may be the best team in the league and I can see him being a real weapon in that offense!

apballin 11-01-2022 10:55 PM

Apparently he wanted out so that makes sense. Unfortunately when he’s on the field your hand is tipped on offense because you know he’s not getting a handoff it’s different for Buffalo because their QB is their RB so he’ll be a good fit there

Don't expect much from Moss. Maybe he has some special teams potential, I don't know.

This was clearly a salary dump, disgruntled player move.

I think the bigger question is how many other players are disgruntled with Reich and how far are we from having a mutiny on our hands?

Bang on.

Obviously I cannot stand the dude and I am biased as hell, but I believe he is roundly disliked. At the game I spent a lot of time looking down at him on the sidelines during dead balls, time outs, etc... I was shocked at how little interaction he has with ANYONE. Dude NEVER ever ever takes off the headphones. Most of the time he's not even surrounded by players, enmeshed in the guys gravitating to the LOS as it moves- it literally is like he is out there all by himself in a little bubble. Not once when I looked down did I see him go discuss something with someone one on one, never saw him drift from the sideline to converse with a personnel group, absolutely NOTHING. How many times has the camera been focused on BB literally IN the huddle with dudes on the sideline, headset off, walking the walk with them, COACHING THEM!

Frank Reich is not a real head coach. He just is not!

If I had to venture a guess: Ryan Kelly, Smith, Nelson, Gilmore, Buckner, Kenny Moore...maybe Leonard and Jonathon Taylor. Professionalism will probably prevent an outright mutiny for most of those guys, but if I had to guess, that's where I'd start. Some will definitely leave in the off season.

Frank Reich is not a real head coach. He just is not!

He's not a leader of men. He has no business being an NFL football coach. Burying your head in the play sheet and trying to figure out how you can scheme the next play is neglect.

I hate to take it this extreme, but this is Dowhower and Infante all over again.

Unless Moss is a good STer I wouldn't count on it. What's the rush to replace Jackson? His play with JT out has been one of the few bright spots this year.

But if he beats him out, that would mean he is better...I have no problem with Jackson, in fact it kind of sucks for him that the guy ahead of him is traded but they bring in another back he'll have to compete with. I say, may the best man win the spot! Moss was a beast at Utah, the guy averaged over 100 yards a game in 2019 and had over 4,000 yards in his career there!
