Stafford Requests Trade, Detroit to Accommodate Him
|
|
|
Do it Ballard, way better than Trubiski.
|
if our 1st and second dot for sure, I suspect there are teams with better 1 and 2s who will be interested also. I feel like with our team he can give us a decent window of competing and is worth a significant investment.
|
Who's our competition for Stafford?
Bears (doubt the Lions trade within their division) Broncos 49ers Panthers Redskins Maybe a couple of other teams. I would guess the 49ers and the Colts should be the front runners. If the Lions would do a solid for Stafford, this is two of the only destinations I would send him to as long as the compensation was the same or better. I forgot the fucking Pats, they need a QB too. |

And I know I am seeing with my heart, but I would like to think that Detroit not only wants Stafford out of the division, but out of the Conference too. That leaves Broncos, Patsies, and Colts. |

Give them a 4th, a 12 pack of Miller, and a VCR of On Any Given Sunday

The 49ers will be around but they’ve got $20M+ invested in Garoppolo for next year. The Broncos are a possibility but Lock was a 2019 draft pick. I doubt the Lions trade him to the Bears within the division. The Washington Football Team and the Panthers do represent some competition. Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the losers of the Watson sweepstakes (Dolphins/Jets) get involved and I suppose you can’t rule out the Texans after they’d deal Watson. Still, one would think that since this is supposedly an amicable split that the Lions would want to do right by him and the Colts seem to be the best situation listed. |
sure, why not. I would rather 1 and 3. Maybe 1 and 2 in split years.

Are there any realistic options other than Safford? By realistic I mean a starting caliber NFL qb that has more than a prayer to lead a team deep into the playoffs. If not, other teams will be in on him hard. Ballard may have to pay more than he wants. He should. Our situation is not good at all right now. If we want to take the next step it is imperative to get a qb.

Here's a salary cap tracker for all teams, which I think needs to be considered in the conversation of which teams are most likely to trade for Stafford:
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2021/ Many of the teams mentioned as potential trade partners are going to have challenges to fit him under the cap. Also, here's are article from Touchdown Wire outlining the reasons why they think Stafford would be bargain for any acquiring team: https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/l...p-quarterback/ Lastly, I don't see any info to suggest that Stafford has a no trade clause in this contract, but if he does that could affect things as well, and may force an acquiring team to renegotiate his salary or extend him. |

He will be 33 in a couple months and he has never won a playoff game. 1 and a 2 seems high. Also don’t forget New Orleans and Carolina.

The Colts are a better option than most teams.
# more young talent # good O line ( need LT) # cap space # 2 of the 3 members of AFC south are a mess. |

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2021/ Panthers actually only have just over $7M in cap space. Poorly run team. |

Stafford is a really good player who’s been stuck in a shit organization his entire career. Give him a solid cast of teammates and a good coach like Reich and the sky is the limit, IMO. |
There are only three ways we get a decent qb. Free agency (almost unheard of for a qb who is great and has several productive years to hit free agency-we may have a long wait), draft (we are not bad enough to get a highly rated qb and moving up in the draft cost a fortune in most instances-more than a trade for Stafford) or trade (which is rare itself). Even if we give up two firsts it would be less than a probable trade up in the draft to get a top qb. I don't see any other choice, get the guy.

|
Do we theoretically have to wait until the beginning of the new league year before making the trade?
|
Does stafford have any choice? Maybe he wouldnt want to go to Chicago (as an example)

@mlombardiNFL
With the cap going down, the places Matthew Stafford will play next year are not a many as might suspect. will be at least 3-4. He will redo his deal after the trade, but the new team will need 20 million of cap room to take on his current deal. The cap will impact this trade |
I’d still rather have someone on a rookie deal

Ballard isn’t averse to giving up a lot if he believes the player is worth it, as we saw with Buckner. But I agree-if it’s at all feasible, they have to do it. |

I was uncomfortable, not opposed - just uncomfortable, with Ballard pulling the trigger on Buckner and it's proven to be solid.
I am uncomfortable with trading a lot of draft value to Detroit. If Ballard was to do this, I think he's proven he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I get that same uneasy feeling I had with Buckner. I think I'm okay with the first round pick, but anything after that... |

Plus, I can not see that Shatner Rocket Man picture enough. |
