Unlike many here I feel it is way to early to give up on AR. It is now obvious that he should have sat and learned how to not only play the position but how to be the leader of men. He needed a mentor not some shithead like Matt 'I'm not here to teach' Ryan. That sentiment should have disqualified Ryan immediately. Minshaw is a cool character who wasn't a teacher either. I want to see with adequate teaching what AR is capable of. We should have never drafted him if we were not going to move heaven and earth to help him develop. I know this isn't a popular opinion but I am not sold on Jones like most are here. Not sold on AR either but at least he has upside if it is developed correctly. If we are now out on AR I think the blame needs to be directed to Ballard/Steichen. They drafted him believing they could develop the young man. So if AR is done here the only reason he ended up here is our management drafted him because they believed in themselves as teachers of a hand picked young man. His failure is their failure.

I think that's it's too early to completely give up on Anthony Richardson, also. But Daniel Jones, prior to breaking his left fibula, was one of the best 5 quarterbacks in the NFL, much better than Richardson was in his tenure as the Colts' starting quarterback ...... so keeping Richardson around as a 2nd-stringer or trading him to a team which needs a starting quarterback in order to see if he can evolve in to as a solid NFL quarterback are both good ideas.

Incidentally, while many have teased Richardson about his latest injury, it was not his fault at all ...... it was a freak accident during pregame warm-ups when a resistance band snapped and struck him in the face, breaking his orbital bone ...... it was extremely unlucky equipment failure, not player error/failure/lack of durability.

If Richardson gets traded to another team and is said new team's starting quarterback, I'll be rooting for him all of the time except when his new team is playing against the Colts.

I agree with everything you said. I am of the belief that 8 games of excellent play (DJ), when teamS are not really ready for what the offense is doing, while very encouraging, doesn't erase his career before this. I would like to bring him back on a one or two year contract. If he can do this for an entire year (be in the top 1/3 of QBs in the league) and win some games against top competition then he is our man. If he is our starter and AR is our backup I feel confident that AR will get to play (DJ has been injured and lost playing time every year except one. He is an injury prone player) and show if he has progressed. I actually think we are pretty close to agreement on this.

I agree

any hope for Richardson developing went out the window with how they handled him. I am sure a lot of his failures are on him but the colts sure didn't help him much

I think the mentor stuff is way overblown. Aaron Rodgers never did shit for Jordan Love and he turned out just fine.

AR has been given many opportunities and he’s screwed up every single one. And if you believe the rumors about his work ethic, that’s even more smoke.

Add to that he’s apparently made of glass and can’t stay healthy for any period of time, and I think most of the blame should go to him.

I’m sure the team could have done things differently but the majority of the blame still has to go to AR.

I don't disagree with this.

I believe the smoke that he wasn't preparing good enough. that shouldn't have been allowed. or the very least, if they knew he wasn't preparing good enough, he shouldn't have been on the field at all. I think that is the main issue with the colts so called plan to develop him

I agree that should never have been made public.

My guess is it was a ham handed attempt to motivate him.

We saw what he’s made of when he tapped out.

Hell, he’s so bad we had opposing coaches like Tomlin telling his defense not to hit him to hard because he was afraid he’d get hurt and the Colts would put Flacco in.

It doesn’t get worse than that.

AR is just bad at football.

I believe you meant Joe Flacco and not Matt Ryan. Ryan was released in March '23, so before we drafted AR. I actually think Ryan would have embraced the mentor role, although he definitely wasn't a good fit for Steichen's offense.

No doubt. This is a prime example of what a complete clusterfuck the FO and coaching staff made of AR's development.
