Colts are easily his best option. |

The Niners could just cut Garoppolo. They structured his contract in a way that there is very little dead cap money if he is cut in the final 2 years of his deal. Like $2.8MM dead cap this year, $1.4MM dead cap in 2022. They would add $24-25 million to their cap space in 2021 and 2022 if they cut him. |

Al Breer had a Stafford / Indy write-up in his latest SI column. I excerpted the comments below; you can click on the link if you want to read the entire article.

Rumors starting that the pats may go after Stafford as well.
I saw trade scenarios. We either give up picks or picks plus talent. 1070 mentioned a first and Leonard. I would hate that trade. Our biggest playmaker on defense. But this is going to be a crapshoot draft. No combine. Less tape and testing of players. Going to be a lot of busts in this draft. Might be a good one to trade picks from. |
I agree on this draft being a crap shoot. I'm not sure what that means however. I would like it to mean that the better draft evaluators will have an even bigger advantage. Putting together a good team to evaluate talent seems to be one of Ballards talents. Might work in our favor to keep those picks.

Also don't want to give Leonard away, more draft picks, maybe, but no way on Leonard. |

No trading leonard. Besides losing a great player, they would lose the locker room. Ballard is smarter than that.

Reading the tea leaves I think we are targeting Stafford. Kevin on Kevin's corner said Reich was obsessed with this throw Stafford made to Golladay in this comeback. Stafford has a lot of comebacks under his belt.

I would hope Darius Leonard would be as close to untouchable as anyone they have, outside of maybe Nelson and Buckner. |

Relax guys. One of the radio announcers made the suggestion. I don’t think it’s going to happen. But I think the point is there will be some competition for Stafford. And we need capital to trade. I don’t know if Ballard will get into a bidding war for him though. He seems to have a price in his head and won’t go over it.

According to John Clayton
Colts are Stafford’s number one choice. |
Rumors will fly probably every day but according to this the 49ers have the inside edge right now.
