Dare they go into the 2021 with Jacob Eason as projected starter? Or perhaps Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I agree with you. Trading for Wentz is a terrible idea. But if I had to choose, Brisett is a professional, and wont quit.

He gets cut, has to start from scratch, prove to the rest of the team he is a team guy. This isnt baseball, where you can have a guy play for his stats.

I’ll take Brissett over Wentz, the team knows he will work ass off for the team. He wont blame others or pout. Wentz played his way off the field, and got pissed when he didnt get to play in a lost game at the end of season really bothers me. He played his way off the field, the coaches put the next guy up. Isnt that what they say? Next man up.

The Colts trade for this guy, he will feel entitled again, with no pressure to put in extra effort.

Trade for him, NO. Pick him up on waivers with a show me contract, sure.

We’ve seen 30 games with Brisset now. How many more do you need to see? I would rather go Eason or a rookie.

Yes I agree. But not Wentz. Hes terrible throwing down field. Hes gotten worse as he has gotten older. Giving up draft picks and taking that contract is just ****ing dumb

How much do you think it will cost for a starting vet QB in the NFL?
Wentz's contact would be about the same as what we paid Rivers.

Quote:

Under Wentz’s current contract, the Colts would be on the hook for guaranteed salary-cap charges of $25.4 million in 2021 and $22 million in 2022.

Quote:

For the trading team (Colts?), they would be on the hook for a 4 year $98 million contract. Still a lot, right? Well, actually not quite. The trading team would really have a 2-year ~$47 million contract, as 2023 and 2024 aren’t guaranteed.

Again, the trading team is getting an average of $23.5M per year for the next two years which is tied with Alex Smith for 17th in the league. No brainer for teams.

Paying that kind of money for someone who plays well, is one thing. Giving that kind of money to Wentz is just dumb. He played worse than the rookie Qb Jalen Hurts. Paying Wents is throwing money and years in the dumper

Oldcolt 02-07-2021 12:04 AM

Ballard won't overpay. He will not get into a bidding war. . Ballard has also shown he has patience. He isn't in half the hurry that I am. If Chicago wants him my guess is they will outbid us. If that happens, good.

Puck 02-07-2021 12:19 AM

People thought Q shouldn't be drafted at 6

People didn't think we should have taken the Maniac

People thought Smith was a reach

People didn't think we should trade the 13th for Buckner

People didn't think we should have signed Rivers

People didn't think we needed to draft a RB and they got JT

The list goes on and on, But if anyone is still doubting Ballard it's crazy. The guys hit rate is ridiculous.

Relax and let them do their thing. They know way more than we do.

In Brissett’s defense, when he had TY we were off to a great start and then Big Q smashed Jacoby’s foot and TY got hurt. This is a different offense now, Taylor, Pittman, still a solid offensive line. It’s not who I want back there but I believe we can win with him if it comes to that

If our options are

Go with brissett and keep draft picks to bolster the team or

Give up picks for Wentz or Darnold I’d rather have the picks

Oldcolt 02-07-2021 12:33 PM

I can't believe we are at a place where people think Brissett should be in the mix for starter. It would be a throw away season again.

Well Ballard and Reich also think that so. Not that I want JB to be the starter, I definitely think he should be brought back to fill the role like Fitz did

As vet competition for a drafted rookie? Sure. Not in any other circumstance.

Oldcolt 02-07-2021 01:01 PM

Brissett is a great back up. I don't dislike the guy, I think he is an excellent number two man, just not as a starter.

I don't think anyone is advocating for bringing him back as "the guy" going forward, more like a 1 year stopgap to allow a rookie to develop.

That is exactly what I'm worried about, a wasted year. Not sure what any QB can learn watching Brissett play. In the QB room, yes. On the field?

It would not be a throw away season we have a good team and look around the division all we have to do is beat out the Titans

Ironshaft 02-07-2021 02:49 PM

I am still thinking it is one of: Dalton, Trubisky or Newton on a 2-year, $18-20m contract to show us if they deserve a longer / more lucrative one, to see if Easton is ready or to find the next long term QB.

Would Brisket even want to come back? The dudes a free agent. He may get a better offer elsewhere.

I think we can make the playoffs with Jacoby as our QB. I have no faith whatsoever that it would not be a one and done. To me if this team does not progress, it is a waste of a season.

But at this point it’s sacrifice picks for a retread beat up confidence shatter QB or keep the picks add more playmakers and roll with what we got. How much better is Wentz or Darnold than Brisset at this point?

Yes that is true. They may be worse, but I don't think anyone can argue that Wentz and Darnold have a much higher ceiling than Brissett. We know what Reich can do with Brissett and it isn't much. We don't know what he can get out of someone else. I don't think either Wentz or Darnold end up here, I think that their asking price with probably be above what Ballard values them at. I would just like someone who has a ceiling that is higher than Jacoby's is to be our starter, be it thru the draft of some other way. Like it has been said, we don't have any really good obvious options right now.

Jacoby sucks. He sucks people. We won despite his performance. He holds the ball too long. He won’t throw to a guy unless he is open, which means he doesn’t throw with anticipation. He is check down Charlie. They went to a 39 year old declining Rivers over a QB that is supposed to be in his prime. He had a QBR almost 20 points lower than Luck and over 10 points lower than Rivers. Rivers held the ball half a second less to a full second. That is how fast you need to make a decision and get the ball out. His yards per attempt was over a yard less than Luck and almost two yards less than Rivers. We watched 30 games with him. Time to move on.

Let him go to the pats, he fits in that system.

If the Colt's can't work out a deal with the Jet's for Darnold, I would like to see them try to move up in the draft, assuming there's a guy that they think is the next franchise QB.

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 04-05-2021 06:55 PM

Well, the Jets finally traded Darnold. Sam is headed to Carolina. And the Jets accepted a lot less draft capital for Darnold vs what the Colts traded for Wentz.

Jets trading QB Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers for a 2021 6th round pick and 2nd and 4th round picks in 2022, per sources.

The only question I have is - what are the Chicago Bears doing? I know that there are question marks with Darnold - but they couldn't top Carolina's offer? Or are they going to try to acquire Bridgewater now for even less than this offer?

albany ed 04-06-2021 05:54 AM

I was on the Darnold bandwagon for a long time and wanted him not Wentz for the Colts. I just hope I was dead wrong about this.

I think he will have success in Carolina. I was hoping for him as well. Still, I'm excited to see what Wentz does.

We may pay a little bit more for Wentz or a lot more (1st rather than 2nd). I think in the end we will have gotten a steal with Wentz. I am not sure what everyone loves about Darnold, other than his arm-which is good but so is Wentz's. Time will tell but Ballard was smart not to draft Darnold in the first place (brilliant if you factor in who he got in return). I think he will be seen as smart to not go after him now also.

When Andrew Luck is your QB, you don't draft a QB. Had Ballard known at the time of the draft that Luck was done, it might have gone a lot differently.

I think we will do well with wentz and in the end this trade will be graded very favorably.

Time will tell how this works out. The panthers actually have a pretty good team besides the QB.

The only thing I can really say is that Wentz and Reich already have a good working relationship. And that we know Wentz is capable of playing at a really high level.

True and seems like most teams wanna trade a QB to the other conference so maybe that factored in

Yeah, I trust Reich - especially when it comes to QBs. My primary concern with Wentz is injury history. The better oline should help though.

Not disagreeing, it should help. Wentz also needs to learn
A. When to give up on a play
B. When to slide. (Are you listening Andrew)
C. When to throw the ball into the 17th row
D. Run out of bounds.
E. Hit the f*cking check down and get 6+ yards
F. Dont listen to the press or the dumb@sses on the interweb.

I don't believe he just forgot how to do theses things.... 2019 wasn't that damn long ago when he carried the Eagles who really were not a very good team. He put up solid numbers. It was just last year alone that he tried to play hero ball and carry them again after the line was decimated and he had no weapons. I really thing we struck gold here the guy had ONE bad season. Not sure how many QBs do much better. O line was complete garbage. Now he is behind a great line with solid weapons and a chip on his shoulder. He's gonna kill it.

Agree. When the trade first came about I was hesitant, but I didnt really follow philly so I had a very outside perspective. Then the trade happened and I was concerned about next years pic going from a 2 to 1. But as time has gone on, seeing the interviews and his attitude, seeing more of his numbers over the years, and knowing what we have vs what the eagles had last year, I am much more confident that we made a good move.

Hero ball, right to the point. Thanks. Get a LT and you have a big ass running game. Make them play the run and mess with them with play action
