What do we have to lose? |

I think it is a little different situation because Haliburton strained his right calf which was definitely a precursor to the right Achilles injury. Jones had been playing through an injury to his left leg and then suffered the right Achilles injury. Sure, you could say that Jones was compensating for his left leg injury which led to different movements and the Achilles injury on the opposite leg...that can happen although it is less common than further injuring the same leg. But I also wonder how much the weather and field conditions played a factor. It was raining and they should have prepared for wet field conditions. So he was probably wearing something different than what he typically wears when playing in good weather or indoors. And picking the wrong cleats for the conditions can sometimes cause Achilles injuries, too. |
Even if Jones has the repair surgery today, it is highly unlikely that he would be ready to play by the beginning of next season. He will not just miss training camp, he will probably miss the first part of next season.
With no existing contract for 2026, I don't wee how any NFL team would do more than sign him to a one year "show me" contract at relative low dollar amounts (somewhere in the $10m - $12m range) so they could start him on the IR, activate him when he is ready and have him battle for the starting postion through the season with whomever they have starting (or as a qualtiy backup if their starter is set and they think they want that extra insurance for the end of the season and playoffs). Alas, I think the timing is terrible for the Colts. I don't think we can take the risk of signing him to a long-term contract and signing him to a one-year seems like treading water. Interesting times. |

We'll probably just have to wait and see what the new GM wants to do with Jones......:D

If you believe that if not for injuries, this team would be 10 and 3 or even better right now, then you can't think Ballard and Steichen are done. If you believe the first half had more to do with weak opponents and an unexpected good performance by a middle of the road QB, then you might feel that Ballard and Steichen are history. |

Personally, I think this season has shown that this team is a decent quarterback away from being a perennial contender, and has been for awhile. However, it’s REALLY REALLY hard to find a franchise quarterback in the NFL. |
