No he did not try to be Dungy. In fact he fired Ron Meeks and hired Larry Coyer. I believe he also got rid of Gene Huey, who was a great RB coach.

So Caldwell definitely tried to forge his own identity. He just made poor decisions in doing so.

Schefter just tweeted that (no surprise) the Colts are expected to fire Pagano.

The point is, all the excuse-making you make for Pagano could apply to Caldwell.

Both were coaches held afloat by great QB play. Both collapsed once said QB missed a season. Defending one while having a crush on the other points to personal bias.

One stat sums up Pagano's failures with the team :

In six years he did not once beat the Pats or the Steelers. 0-12 total.

That is your biggest competition, or should be if you expect to make a SB, and never once beat them.

Steelers have won games and survived with injuries to Roethlisberger on multiple occasions.

Packers have managed to stay in contention before for a good part of a season without Rodgers.

The idea is correct, but the facts are wrong. The Colts are 0-9 vs PIT or NE in the Pagano era.

Cheats losses = 2012 / 2013 playoffs / 2014 / 2014 playoffs / 2015

Steelers losses = 2014 / 2015 / 2016 / 2017

Not quite the same as 0-12 but, well, close enough.

Walk Worthy,
