Default Scientific proof we should have known this would be a bad year

I’ve said this before but the evidence is mounting. The Colts and IU basketball are never good in the same year, and with all the signs pointing to IU having a very good team this year, we should have known the Colts were in for a bad time.
This trend has been true at least since 2001, that year the Colts finished 6-10, giving us Mora’s famous “playoffs?!” Quote. Meanwhile this was the season IU went 25-12 and made it to the NCAA championship game.

2002: Colts 10-6, IU decline to 21-13, don’t make it far in the tourney
2003: Colts 12-4, IU 14-15 - Colts good, IU bad
2004: Colts 12-4, IU 15-14 - Colts good, IU bad
2005: Colts 14-2, IU 19-12 - Colts great, IU a little better but Mike Davis fired)
2006: Colts 12-4 (Super Bowl), IU 21-11 (better but start of Sampson era)
2007: Colts 13-3, IU 25-8 (an exception maybe, but Sampson fired near end of year, team ends as a disgrace)
2008: Colts 12-4, IU 6-25 (Colts good, IU terrible)
2009: Colts 14-2 (Super Bowl appearance), IU 10-21 (Colts great, IU terrible)
2010: Colts 10-6, IU 12-20 (Colts good, IU terrible)
Thus ended the Manning era in Indy and began the Zeller/Oladipo era at IU
2011: Colts 2-14, IU 27-9 (Colts terrible, IU good)
2012: Colts 11-5, IU 29-7 (the main exception to my rule, both teams good)
2013: Colts 11-5, IU 17-15 (Colts good, IU bad)
2014: Colts 11-5, IU 20-14 (Colts good, IU a little better but mediocre)
2015: Colts 8-8, IU 27-8 (Colts mediocre, IU has a good year)
2016: Colts 8-8, IU 18-16 (both teams can be bad or mediocre in same year)
2017: Colts 4-12, IU 16-15
2018: Colts 10-6, IU 19-16 (Colts get better, IU still mediocre)
2019: Colts 7-9, IU 20-12 (Colts bad, IU good)
2020: Colts 11-5, IU 12-15 (Colts back to good, IU goes back to bad)
2021: Colts 9-8, IU 21-14 (Colts mediocre, end season bad, IU under Woodson starts looking good)
2022: Colts current 3-5-1 and look awful, IU is 2-0 and looking strong while blowing out cupcakes, has a high ranking.

In 2002, Indiana made it all the way to the national championship game.

I was referring to the fall of 2002 which would be the 2002-03 basketball season. The previous year when IU went to the championship was immediately after the Mora meltdown season

Well this tells us that IU basketball just needs to be made perpetually terrible. I don't have any bias in this statement as a Purdue grad or anything.

Then your overall comparison numbers for all of the seasons are not aligned correctly.

All basketball seasons, college and professional, are notated by the season's end. More than half of the regular season and the entire postseason is played after January 1st ...... subsequently, whenever a reference is made to Bobby Knight's Indiana team as being the last national championship team to go undefeated, they say "The 1976 Indiana Hoosiers" for that 1975-76 Indiana team. The same is true for each and every other national championship team, such as the 1983 NC State Wolfpack who upset Houston's Phi Slama Jama team, the 1985 Villanova Wildcats who upset the heavily favored Georgetown Hoyas, and Danny Manning's 1988 Kansas Jayhawks team who upset Billy Tubbs' heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners.

That said, I'm sure that there are still some strong similarities between good Colts teams and bad Indiana basketball teams even if the years were realigned correctly.

To be fair, I've also been losing my mind for the last week. I'm just gonna let it go and embrace what we are now.

I did it correctly, I logged the fall football season with the fall/spring basketball season so when I looked up the colts 2002 record, I look up the Indiana 2002-2003 record.

It’s worth noting that both seasons begin in the fall and overlap partially. It’s also worth noting that NFL seasons span into January too.

I was not trying to compare the colts fall record with the IU b-ball record that ended the previous spring. I’m comparing the simultaneous partially overlapping seasons.

I know what you did. It's not accurate, numerically and historically.

Football seasons are defined by the season in which the vast majority in which it is played (as is the 2006 world champion Colts, who won the Super Bowl in February of 2007), and basketball seasons are also defined by when the vast majority of its seasons are played, of examples in which I pointed out in my previous post.

That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

It would go along with them being perpetually over rated
