Default The most important thing about drafting a rookie QB

Is to give him a good team. Experience tells us that a lot of highly regarded college Quarterbacks never make a successful move to the NFL. conventional wisdom is that you want some kind of Quarterback whisperer as your coach…someone who can shape and mold a rookie into the next Peyton Manning. In today’s NFL, Andy Reid is the poster child for QB whisperers.

But, let’s cut to the bottom line. Patrick Mahomes had Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and a heckuva OL. If he, or Josh Allen, or Joe Burrow had gone to the kind of typical, bottom dwelling team that usually picks first, would they have enjoyed anywhere near as much success?

If Peyton had come out a year earler and gone to the Jets, does any of us believe that he’s in the hall of fame, today? Would Brady have turned the Bungles into a juggernaut?

That’s not to say that the Colts don’t need a good head coach. They do. But, whomever they chose at QB, his path forward will be infinitely easier if theyfind a way to solidify the OL, and turn Parris Campbell into AJ Brown.

The most important thing about drafting a Rookie QB is all the money it saves on salary cap for 4/5 years

Eagles, 49ers, and Bengals are all loaded because of this

Once you pay the QB (Mahomes) you hope he has just enough talent and you draft the right rookies to carry yourself to a championship because the QB is your only advantage

The chiefs are probably the least “talented “ team on paper remaining
