Tarell Basham, DE Ohio 3rd Rd Pick
Tarell Basham
Edge∙Ohio Year: Senior Height: 6-3 3/4 Weight: 269 40-Yard: 4.70 Arm: N/A Hand: N/A Strong Points Has all the physical traits an edge player needs in order to be successful in the NFL. Plays with strength and is explosive. Shows he can take on and shed blocks quickly. Has played both up and down during his time at Ohio. Has very good get-off quickness, stays low and can use his hands to disengage. Good chase player. Can drop into coverage, play man or zone and transition. Played well at the Senior Bowl and then had a strong showing at the Combine. Weak Points Runs well but you don't see a short area burst. While he shows he can play in coverage, he lacks experience and will need to improve in this area. Not quite a finished product. The Way We See It Has been a dominant player in the MAC and then followed that up with impressive Senior Bowl and Combine weeks. Has excellent size to play either as an OLB in a 3-4 or DE in a 4-3. He is explosive with very good get off quickness. Shows adequate hand use and is able to use counter moves. Strong bull rusher. Is alert and quick to find the ball in the run game. Has the traits to play in coverage but lacks a lot of experience with it. Has a chance to start as a rookie and should become a solid NFL player by Year 2. http://www.profootballweekly.com/dra...tarell-basham/

Looks like a solid rotation player at OLB. Will need a real difference-maker at OLB next year.

I disagree with their assessment of his hand usage, that's what I think will determine his success as a pass rusher.

It's not who I would've picked, but I'm not going to complain. Need position and Ballard easily gets the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully he can play some valuable snaps this year and learn to play at an NFL level.

Funny how player assessment can vary so much from source to source. One site clearly indicated he was a weak bull rusher contrary to what is noted above.

Not going to pretend to have watched him, or pretend that even many of the "experts" have watched him closely. But I love the position at least. You're not going to make me mad giving a rookie a designated pass rush specialist role on this roster.

Seems like a good athlete who was highly productive in college. Will probably take him a bit to make the leap from MAC to the NFL, but I like the pick.

Yea, you're not gonna get an immediate starter or impact player in the 3rd round unless you just get really lucky. This one looks like he might be a decent rotational player and can hopefully become a more significant contributor in his 2nd year.

Very interesting read regarding the 49ers draft process, and the fact that Shanahan was very interested in Basham before we took him Last edited by Wyatt; 05-01-2017 at 02:22 PM. |
