Both of them on IR is a shame.

It's really scary how good Leonard could be. Because like Dam said he is giving some stuff up in the passing game, that you know, with time he will get better at.

Also, gotta give a shout out to Eberflus. Those blitzes were so well timed.

Hunt leads NFL in tackles for loss, Leonard is second.

Between the two, they have 51 tackles (14 for loss), six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered and three pass breakups through three games.

Leonard’s 41 tackles currently leads the NFL, and both players are tied for the third-most sacks with three apiece

Defensive end Jabaal Sheard has three tackles for loss on the year, which is tied for the fifth most in the league. He also has 1.5 sacks and three consecutive games with a pass breakup, which is one shy of a single-season personal best.
Team effort.

Five more players are credited with 1 Tackle for Loss (Walker, Moore, Desir, Muhammad, and Woods).

Turay has 1.5 sacks tied with Sheard. Jihad Ward has 1.0 sacks.

Anyone notice who is playing SSLB the most? Goode is only credited with 2 tackles total with no other stats but Franklin has 4 tackles. Special Teams for Franklin?

Young, young defense. They will only improve with more playing experience and playing time together.

Exciting.

Walk Worthy,

Walk Worthy,
We play a lot of big nickel or just nickel. We don’t roll with 3 lbers that much.

Yeah, I just saw the snap count article on Stampede Blue:
Hooker - 82 snaps
Geathers - 82 snaps
Moore - 82 snaps
Hairston - 82 snaps
Leonard - 82 snaps
Walker - 73 snaps
Desir - 65 snaps
Franklin - 14 snaps
Farley - 9 snaps
Goode - 3 snaps

Desir (65 snaps) + Fanklin (14 snaps) + Goode (3 snaps) = 82 snaps.

Walker (73 snaps) + Farley (9 snaps) = 82 snaps as well

Secondary total snaps = 402 snaps (should be 82 x 4 secondary spots or 328 if we ran base defense)

Linebacker total snaps = 172 snaps (should be 82 x 3 linebacker spots or 246 if we ran base defense)

So, yeah, we are running a TON more nickle/big nickle/dime packages than base defense packages.

I certainly see us playing a whole bunch of two LB sets going forward (Leonard + Walker) with Geathers as the box safety/3rd LB and not a ton of three LBs sets except perhaps in "jumbo" packages. Walker, Leonard and Geathers are just showing that they are that much better then the other choices for more LBs.

Perhaps Franklin will also bloom as the season goes on and will get in the mix more. That would be a welcome addition.

Walk Worthy,

Walk Worthy,
The person playing SLB most often is likely Clayton Geathers. Big Nickel is becoming standard personnel throughout the NFL.
