I'm not in panick mode but WTF Ballard?? It's not coming out of your pocket Chris!!!
I don't disagree with you, but I also don't have any idea what was offered and if Poe had any interest.

Once Luck comes back and proves he is still a top 10 QB then players will want to come here on fair contracts.
You're putting too much emphasis on weather, and a lot of the teams free agents have been signing with are in worse situations than the Colts. I think he would've signed with the Colts for a similar deal, maybe they would've had to beat Carolina's offer, but not by much. That said, as of the time of this post, Suh and Richardson are still on the market, and either would make a great 3-tech, which is a need.

I know Suh won't be cheap, and he can be a punk, but I wouldn't mind having him on the Colts.

He wants money. He won't get the most here. So he's not coming here.

Agreed.....and as I've said before he's very attuned to the impact of taxes on his money. If he has a choice of Seattle or Indy he is choosing Seattle

The difference in what he would pay in taxes to be here other than somewhere else is minimal..... easily paid by Ballard.

It's not out bidding it has more to do with location and who the QB is. IMO

Cost of living is lower though. Hard to compete with no taxes but if taxes are close...

Keep in mind that it's not a simple as a non-tax state vs. a taxed state. Even when their home team is in a tax-free state, a pro athlete will still have to pay taxes in all of the other states where they earn their living. This means that a player will pay taxes, at a minimum, in any state where they play a game. An athlete's taxes are enormously more complicated than most. Here's an article that covers the topic if you're interested

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbad.../#403fd7cb411e

Their home state is the most important, but it doesn't shield them from state income taxes.

I am not making it a primary factor, but a part of the whole package.
