To me this proves that it was a mistake to to give him 20 million a year. He is a great player but he isn't worth that kind of money at that position. Team would be better off with the linebackers we currently are playing, spent the extra money/draft picks we would have gotten for him in a trade elsewhere (god knows we could use them on the offensive line for sure). Plenty of people at the time felt that no player at his position is worth that amount, I believe they were correct.

So you might think we don't really need him to be good enough. What you're weighing is the value you could get for him vs. what this defense is missing without him.

His coverage from the LB spot is a tough thing for a guy like Franklin replicate, as well as he's played. And the turnovers he's produced are unlike any player in the entire league, which is an element we're missing on D so far.
The way Grover and Buckner are playing Leonard should be able to patrol the middle of the field freely in both the passing game and come downhill on the run. Not to mention the way he covers sideline to sideline on screen passes and stretch runs

I feel like he’s gonna boost an already good defense

Exactly, I believe Shaq, last season had the most forced turnovers (12) since Charles "Peanut" Tillman" had 13 in 2012.

You can't replace that You just can't. I'm here to tell you that I respect the hell out of Zaire Franklin and E.J. Speeds play, but even they would tell you that they can't do that.

Yup. We have a competent replacement in there now and the defense is effective. Zaire is doing a good job and makes tackles, not terrible in coverage either. But Shaq takes it to another level. He is a turnover-generating machine. That is so valuable in today's NFL. Where an extra possession can give you the game bc so many games are decided by the kicker at the end.

Yep, not sure where all this IR him or trade him garbage is coming from. Shaq is a difference maker. He did want to play against the Tits, but the coaches are holding him out for another week to make sure he heals up completely.

Not at all. If there was a team willing to trade a better than average left tackle for him, I'd do it. It would improve the offense, without compromising what the defense has already been this year. In addition, it would trim the payroll. All at the cost of what Shaq might add to the defenses already top-10 play.

BUT, no one would trade a good LT for him and his contract (unless his name is Jerry Jones). And we know that extra cap room won't be used to sign a top-shelf FA in the off-season.

Agnes! Get the Cowboys on line one!

That's an interesting thought, but I think both sides say no to Tyron Smith for Shaq Leonard. From the Colts perspective, they're getting older and more expensive. From the Cowboys perspective, they're losing a top 10 LT off of a contending team.

Unfortunately the best team to get a LT from would be the Texans, but there's no chance they'd trade us Tunsil, even for Leonard.
