A few thoughts i had

1). Taylor is looking phenomenal. He has improved dramatically. His ability to avoid contact and gain extra yards now vs the start of the year is impressive.

2. Buckner is fantastic. The defense isn’t even close to the same without him.

3. Turay had some disruptive plays. We need that

4. I still don’t like Rivers but he is playing well and he isn’t Brissett. I see at least 1 more year with him.

5. The oline is playing very well. Glowinski has quietly had a good year.

6. Not really happy with Lewis. He has had moments but I want to see more. Banogu is a nobody. Still time but it is ticking.

7. Hines is a great. Keeps impressing me

8. We give up way too many easy passes. I know it’s scheme and bend but don’t break but it can be infuriating.

Omaha's 8th point is bang on.

How many third and longs does this defence give up? Infuriating.

That said, Watson is incredible and I'm sure pleased to see the back of him for the year.

Lose contain on him and he torches you.

Colts would be near unbeatable with him at the helm, and a legit edge pass rusher.

Have to touch on JT, too. His improvement the past month has been staggering. His vision and patience on his TD run today was a thing of beauty. You also just have to love his punishing running style and the yards after contact he generates.

I suspect we'll see him rip off a stack of long TD runs next year.

The problem with being upset with those third downs is how do you stop that? The back 7 can't cover the field for 6-8 seconds, and once Watson breaks out he's faster than most DL. You can spy him but then you're giving up a defender in coverage, which makes the coverage more vulnerable in man or zone. The only one that really stands out as preventable to me was the blown coverage by Rhodes (the Hansen TD). The Colts had called some variation of Cover 3 on the down because the other boundary CB (I think T.J. Carrie?) fakes up as though he's going to cover Hansen, but then immediately drops to cover his responsibility, which is the deep third of the field on his side, and more specifically never makes a move to try to cover a specific receiver. Meanwhile on the other side of the field, Brandin Cooks is running a deep crosser near Xavier Rhodes, and Rhodes gets sucked in, chasing Cooks across the field and vacating his zone responsibility of the deep third of the defense's right side of the field (the offense's left, where Hansen ended up). This allowed Hansen to run past all the middle of field zone coverage to the vacated deep zone, and with one of the few clean pockets the Texans gave Watson all game long, he found Hansen with nobody within ten yards of him for an easy score. Had Rhodes stayed with his assignment on that play, it may have taken a good play by Blackmon to prevent a big gain by Cooks.

Scrambling QBs break this defense down. Defensive line either plays contain and tries to keep Watson in the pocket, which slows the pass rush down a lot, or they pass rush best they can and that opens running lanes for Watson.

If they keep a spy in then it opens a hole in coverage. If they blitz it improves pass rush but opens a hole again. Have to pick your poison.

Really it just exposes our lack of a dominant pass rusher. We need a guy on the outside that can win regularly. It might be the last piece of this defense. Pass rush right now is a team effort.

They're still getting it done against Watson, I think the Colts had 10 total sacks in 2 games against a good Texans OL that includes an elite LT in Laremy Tunsil. I agree that the Colts could use an elite pass rushing DE, but they're getting production out of what they have now.

Yet both games this year ended on last second fumbles as they were about to score, one would have won the game and the other tied. Sacs are great but we still struggle. We had a sac last game that pushed them back. Next play watson hits a receiver for a 20 yard gain, erasing the sac other than the stat sheet.

The other guys get paid, too? Watson is one of the best in the league and specializes in extending plays, which breaks the concept of a zone defense. He's going to make some plays by buying time for his receivers to get open in any given game. The more negative plays a defense creates against him, the more likely they are to limit the damage he can do.
