Just saw Ian Rappaport on NFL total access.....Ballard (who was at the senior bowl in Mobile) just picked up Irsay in Indy and they are flying to Foxboro for a second interview (ie Planning meeting) with Josh McD tomorrow. According to Rapsheet it is "all systems go" for an offer immediately after the superbowl and Friday's meeting is all about planning for the future.

Heard Mike Chappel on JMV this afternoon speculating that they will announce Josh on Monday or Tuesday and in that presser will share that Andrew has been throwing and all is looking good. He speculated that if there had been a setback it surely would have leaked by now and would have likely put a wrinkle in the McDaniels hiring.......of course take this all with a big grain of salt....It is speculation, not reporting.

I like your thinking. I agree that those 2 are the only Colts free agents that I think we need to lock up prior to the start of free agency.

The others that I would not mind coming back but would probably like, in a perfect world, an upgrade on include Mewhort, Person, Mingo, and Bostic.

I was not as high on Desir as many here so I don't care if he is back.

Everyone else? I hope we can upgrade over them.

Melvin is the top priority.

Even AV, I would like to have him back, sure, at the right price.

But kickers can be replaced pretty easily in this league.

I doubt he will be commanding top dollar out of market value though and will likely come back

The biggest factor is that AV is only 58 points away from becoming the NFL's career scoring leader. Do you not think that Jim Irsay wants the horseshoe on the side of his helmet when that happens?

It will have been 11 seasons since Morton Andersen retired (2007) after breaking the previous record in 2006 from Gary Anderson (retired in 2004) who took it from George fricking Blanda in 2001. The scoring record was broken twice from 2001 - 2006 and then not again until now. It will be a big deal next year when AV does it and he better have the shoe on when he does so.

Also, behind AV, there is:
Phil Dawson, 1,817 points, 670 points behind, age 42 (not happening)
Sebastian Janikowski, 1,799 points, 688 points behind, age 39
Matt Bryant, 1,624 points, 863 points behind, age 42 (not happening)
Stephen Gostkowski, 1,613 points, 874 points behind, age 33

AV has averaged scoring 126 points per season over his career
SJ has averaged scoring 106 points per season over his career
SG has averaged scoring 134 points per season over his career

If AV kicks in 2018, scores 126 and finishes with 2,613 points:

SJ has to kick until the 2024 season (age 47) at his career average to break the record
SG has to kick until the 2024 season (age 40) at his career average to break the record

So, AV will own the record for probably at least 5-6 seasons before it is broken if either of those gentlemen play that long.

The money does not matter; top paid kicker in the NFL (Gostowski) makes an average of $4.3m per year. Chump change....

So, I think he is a priority re-sign for no other reason than the fan excitement in seeing one of our own earn that kind of NFL record. Even with a new coach, schemes and the return of Luck, you cannot buy fan excitement like seeing one of your guys earn NFL career records.

Gost will not score as much when the team dwindles in a couple of years. The only way he will keep those numbers up is if he follows McDaniels to Indy.

I agree that we should do our best to resign AV but it takes two to tango....this may just be negotiating strategy on AV's part but if I'm him I would also do my best to negotiate from a position of strength and the fact of the matter is AV has performed consistently, the Colts have not....they want to keep him they gotta be willing to pay him, and beyond paying him they need to re-recruit him. Competitors like AV want to win as much as they want to get paid.

He has spent the past 13 seasons in Indianapolis, but the Colts parted ways with Chuck Pagano and will hire Josh McDaniels as their head coach after the Super Bowl. Special teams coordinator Tom McMahon already has found a new job in Denver.

AV will be a Colt, and it will be for two more seasons.
