Default Colts Sign NT Hankins 3 years, $30MM, $14.5MM G

Schefter reports that it’s a three-year, $30 million contract with $14.5 million guaranteed. Hankins had reportedly been holding out for a $10 million a year average, and those numbers suggest he has received it, although it’s possible that the contract is structured in such a way that he’s not really going to see all $30 million.

Default Colts Sign DT Johnathan Hankins

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Former Giants' DT Johnathan Hankins, the top-rated available free agent, is signing a 3-year, $30M deal with Colts, source tells ESPN.

So there's our big fish! (pardon the pun)

Yes, it's a fuckton of money. No, I don't care. We're desperate at NT and we have the cash and it's not a strong position in this year's draft.

Good job, Ballard.

Wow, $10m a year. He better produce!

We are a better team then this morning so that is great. We were not fixing NT any other way this year.

But...wow. That is a lot of cheddar.

Cheers,

Glad Ballard realized he didn't need to save that cap space to re-sign many draft picks the next two years. We'll see how good Hankins is at NT as opposed to DT.

Defensive front is instantly improved. $14.5M guaranteed isn't too shabby a deal for either side. I like it. In Ballard I trust.

And it won't limit them from making other moves the next two years. Pay him a bunch up front and leave the back end of the deal flexible.

Welcome to Indy Big Hank, this should help further Ballard's assertion of BPA in the draft

BPA in rounds 1 and 2 should be Reuban Foster, OLB[Rush] or CB. Those are our largest needs on defense.

If BPA is not there, then trade back for more mid-round picks and then pick BPA at CB or OLB[Rush].
