Default Phillip Walker

Phillip "PJ" Walker, yes that one, just lead his Houston Roughnecks to a 37-17 win in their first XFL game. He went 23/39, 272 yards, 4 touch downs, 1 interception. Just FYI

I was looking at the rosters and there's a guy from the University of Indianapolis on one of the teams. Indiana State has someone in the league too, and Indiana has several players as well.

Did anyone watch any of the XFL games? [I didn't]

I might try to see one next weekend. I wanted to see the modified kickoff rules in action. I wonder if this is something that the NFL will consider sometime in the future. The NFL changed their rules on kickoffs to increase the number of touchbacks and limit the number of dangerous hits. It almost has made the kickoff irrelevant.

It appears the XFL rule encourages more kick returns but eliminates the 30 yard sprint and collision. The kicker and returner are offset from the rest of the coverage and return teams. The coverage and return teams are not allowed to move until the ball is caught by the returner or the ball hits the ground and 3 seconds pass.

Here is a video of the first kickoff of the season:

I like it. It certainly beats eliminating the kickoff completely.

Yeah it's definitely better than not having it.

The thing I like the most is the no extra point kick after a score with the options for 1,2, or 3 point plays. It opens up a lot more strategy options from coaches.

I like it too, seems like more potential for a break out play which is what the fans want to see.
