Default Colts to hire Cam Turner as quarterbacks coach

. INDIANAPOLIS — The work of filling out the Colts coaching staff is ongoing as the rest of the NFL world descends on Indianapolis for the NFL scouting combine this week.

Indianapolis is hiring former Cardinals assistant Cam Turner to be Shane Steichen’s quarterbacks coach, according to NFL Network, adding a coach to the staff with a history of working with mobile quarterbacks.

Turner spent the last five seasons in Arizona, a significant portion of that time working with Kyler Murray, and before that, he got his start in the NFL as a position coach with three years in Carolina, the first two as assistant wide receivers coach and the last one as assistant quarterbacks coach for a Panthers team that featured Cam Newton.

Turner’s hire might mean the lion’s share of Steichen’s initial work has already been completed.

On the offensive side of the ball, Steichen is keeping Reggie Wayne as wide receivers coach and has hired Jim Bob Cooter as offensive coordinator, Turner as quarterbacks coach, former Giants running backs coach DeAndre Smith, Tony Sparano Jr. as offensive line coach and brought back Tom Manning as tight ends coach. On defense, Steichen is keeping defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, and that likely means most of the defensive staff will stay, given the lengthy relationships Bradley has with several of his coaches.

Steichen still needs to find a special teams coordinator to replace Bubba Ventrone, who left Indianapolis for a spot with the Browns that includes assistant head coaching duties in addition to his work as coordinator.

So are we now just missing Ventrone's replacement to complete the core coaching staff? All of defense is returning, right? New HC, OC, OL coach, RB coach, TE coach, Wayne back as WR coach... that it?

Theoretically, yes. However, it is the Colts and as we learned the last couple years they are as solid as quick-sand.
