Wasn’t he more in an advisory capacity anyway? Got the impression this was always temporary.

That was my impression as well. I hope it is more he feels his job was done and not for health reasons.

Mudd hasn't been totally out of football since his retirement several years ago....but much of that previous post-retirement work was consulting a few days here and there or maybe even a week or two for NFL or college teams.
