Default Ballard press conference

“Our draft board doesn’t look like the media’s draft board”

Be prepared to be shocked with the pick

I won't be shocked. I'll be willing to bet that he has none of the WR's with a 1st round grade.

If it did look like the medias draft board (WR, RB on many) I would have been shocked. It doesn't because Ballard is smarter than that. He understands the importance of building up the lines. He is building the right way with the draft.

I was listening to Gil Brandt on NFL radio the other day. He must talk to Ballard a lot because he had high praise for him. Ballard also mentioned talking to him in the indystar. Gil said Ballard was dialed in on this draft and had a very good read on it. If you don’t know, Gil talks to everyone in the league and especially GM’s. And they don’t BS him like say like the guys at walterfootball, they know they can trust him. Well to a point, I’m sure they don’t tell him everything. They just don’t use him to spread mis-information. His take on players is usually a reflection of the teams opinions.

Did Gil have any read on which direction Ballard is leaning position-wise?

Ballard and Reich have completely changed the team culture for the better. I'll be fine with whoever the picks turn out to be.

McAfee had Ballard on his podcast yesterday. Some interesting notes:

1) Yesterday, the front office had a 3 hour meeting with scouts where everyone made a case for their guys. Then Ballard met with Reich and Irsay to detail the draft strategy.
2) The front office has worked through scenarios about players they would be interested in trading up for if they start to fall. It might just be them being fully prepared, but it came across to me that it was absolutely something they would consider for the right player.
