Default Smart play by a Steeler

While watching the Steelers vs. Ravens game, there was a kickoff by the Ravens that ended up on the 4 yard line about 3 feet from the sideline. The player laid down face first with his feet out of bounds and grabbed the ball. This caused a penalty for an out of bounds kickoff and gave the Steelers the ball on the 35 yard line to start the drive. Pretty simple play, but surprisingly very few players would know enough to do it. Kind of disturbing when this is your chosen profession. You should know these things. I've seen a RB on a sweep, get trapped 5 or more yards behind the LOS and just end up going out of bounds for a loss. Just throw the ball forward and out of bounds and you keep the same LOS with no loss of yardage. There's a ton of situations where I see these guys not do what should be obvious. Can anyone give more examples?

punt returners fair catching it at the 5

no idea why it happens so often.

i think most returners know to keep a body part out of bounds to field the kick. have seen it many times.
