One of my all time faves, I always remember the run back game against the Pats- one of the seminal moments in making me a Colts fan.

Lydell Mitchell? I was thinking more like Lenny Moore. Now that's old.
For some reason, I read that as Lenny Elmore

Lenny Moore was incredible. Liked Lydell but Tom Matte was my man after emergency quarterbacking against the damn Packers (a game we won but the freaking ref called a field goal kick wrong) in the title game (I think-it was a long time ago and I was young)

I still have and wear my old Baltimore Colts jacket

When you say the "run back game against the Patriots," I think of Joe Washington and the incredible Monday Night Football game that he had against them in September of 1978.

He did a great job in replacing the recently-departed Lydell Mitchell, whom he was traded for to the Chargers just prior to the start of that season. Unfortunately, Bert Jones missed a great deal of that season because of the shoulder injury that he suffered when he was sacked by Bubba Baker in the final preseason game against the Lions.

Yep, Lydel was on on my favorite players at that time, devastated when he wasn't a Colt anymore, and then Joe W's magical night made a full fledged Colts forever fan and even then entrenched my hatred for the Pats- so for me it's not just a last 15- 20 year thing with them- it goes back to the 70's- that HATE is real!

Today's game is about the J E T S and if you were a fan 50 years ago, then that sting still hurts. I hope they bury the bastards today.

Speaking of favorite Patriot games...how about the end of season 18 point comeback to end the '77 season and win the AFC East.

Bert Jones was incredible in that game.

That was the Game of the Week on This Week in Pro Football.

I was in 7th grade at the time.

Bill Belichick stated that if there one quarterback in the history of professional football not named Tom Brady whom he would want engineering his team on offense, it would be Bert Jones.

If Bill Belichick could Choose any Quarterback to Lead His Team, He’d Pick .......

(By Zack Cox)
