Default Ballard one of the best drafting GMs

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-general...nds-2023-draft

Ballard Success Rate by Draft Day:

Rd1:
*66.6% Above Average Picks (over 50%ile)
*33.3% Big Hit% (over 75%ile)
Rank: 4th

Rds2-3:

*38.9% Big Hit%
Rank: 8th

No team is better in all 3 Days of the Draft than the Colts, & only 5 teams are better in 2 of the Days:

• Bears: Days 2 & 3
• Chiefs: Days 2 & 3
• Buccaneers: Days 2 & 3

To me it's the reason he has a job, and the reason I've never been huge on the fire Ballard bandwagon. Dude just nails the draft consistently.

Still, I can see the argument that one would rather have a GM that whiffs on the draft a bit more that also is way more proactive in getting help for the team.

Absolutely why he still has a job. If we can solve the QB issue, we should have very strong teams. But of course, it’s the hardest position to find in sports. I think if we were in a window like the Chiefs are, I bet he would be more proactive. But I see little benefit in blowing a ton of money on FAs when we are still looking for that QB.
