Default Can One Be a Colts “Homer” if They Are Not From the Geographical Area ???

o

Somebody pointed something out to me years ago, and I found it to be very interesting. I have been rooting for the Colts since I was 6 years-old, in the Fall of 1971. I have often referred to myself as a "homer", because I will undyingly support the Colts, no matter how good or bad they are ...... when they started the 2011 season out at 0-13 when Peyton Manning was injured, I was still fervently rooting for them to win their final 3 games of said season.

But I am from New York State, not Indiana, and not Maryland (the Colts' original home) ...... so as much as I bleed Blue-and-White for my beloved Colts, can I truly be considered and defined as a "homer" ???

I don't know about "homer" but I'm definitely a diehard.

I grew up 40 miles north of Houston and I've been a diehard Colts fans since I was 10 and could follow football on my own. My earliest memories of the Oilers were pretty positive. But around the mid-90's the vibe was completely different and everyone seemed to badmouth them.

And since my little league team every year was the Colts, I found the "real life" version of them on tv fascinating. That first year I kept up with them happened to be the '95 season and the playoff run and I was hooked.

Not long after, the Manning era started and I had no choice but to have a blast following them.

The term "homer" typically refers to a level of bias in favor of one's preferred team. By that standard, geographic location has nothing to do with it.
