That is my fear. The kid has a future, but not here. Someone will sign the guy, and he will improve over time. You just can't wait for that to happen if you think you are close to competing now.

If he catches on somewhere else and has a good career, more power to him. That said, sometimes you need a change of scenery, and he just wasn't getting the job done here.

Since being released, Blankenship worked out for a few teams (Jaguars, Cardinals, etc) before eventually signing with the Cardinals practice squad to help fill-in for their regular kicker Matt Prater who is recovering from a hip injury.

In his first game action for AZ:

The Good: Specs went 2 for 2 on FG's including a 50 YD FG

The Bad: Specs missed an extra point attempt (2 for 3 on XP's)

Still seems to be a bit inconsistent with the results.

I wish him well, but I like that the Colts now have a FG kicker who can routinely make 50+ YD FG's.

Kid has the yips. A good sports psychologist and kicking coach can fix him over time. We just don't have the time it would take.

Less than 24 hours since being waived by the #Colts, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship was seen practicing field goals by himself at an Indy sports complex
He needed to go, but I got some feels from this pic. After seeing this I sorta hope he works out somewhere.
