I'm a veteran too. When it plays, I proudly stand, hand over heart, but I agree, it's an unnecessary tradition. I remember going to the movie theatre on base and they played it before the movies, and you had to stand at attention. That one seemed unnecessary too. But, if you are going to play it, you have to respect the right of protest. It's the American way.
